Status: offline 		Can't commit to this one just yet. , I wish the Houston area would have more interest. You would think with a population of 6 million in the Houston, Sugarland, Baytown area, there would be more than a handful of us interested in Club 40.

Status: offline 		OK everybody let’s hear from y’all, the Georgetown race is still on and so far I have one maybe and two maybe-not’s. Now that everyone knows what prop to use, I’m sure there will be more tight racing similar to that at the Waco NAT’s. There is No greater adrenalin rush than coming in forth and being only one second behind the winner.

We will be using the same matrix system used in Waco, so I will need your name and AMA number before race day.

Status: offline 		Gary, that’s great. For the first test flight I recommend one of those slow, Greg Doe props, it will help you get used to the new balance of the repaired plane before you put the pedal to the metal.

Status: offline 		Bob, a question came up in Waco about engine idle. You said next year that rule will be added to RCPRO, so as of right now the don't have to idle?

The idle rule has always been in the rules but no one has been enforcing it, and there has been talk of backing out or removing the idle needle valve to gain 3 or 400 RPM, as they do in 424. In 2013 each engine will be run, on the line, at idle for 30 seconds with no one holding the plane; and the plane must stand in place without moving during that time. This will be done during the first round only. If an engine does not idle for 30 seconds the pilot will get a zero for that heat.

I don’t want to hear guys crying that they can’t get their engine to idle. Get the needle set correctly and it will idle. I have four TT Pro 40’s and four GMS 40’s and they all idle very nicely.

In the past I have run into idling problems and found that the rubber O-ring under the carb will go bad from time to time, or if you get your motor hot from running to lean this O-ring gasket will leak on you! It will need to be replaced or cleaned and reseated after this happens!

Thanks Bob, and I knew about the idle rule, BUT if you read the current set of rules on the RCPRO website, it says nothing about the idle issue. If it does please point it out to me because I missed it. So a couple of the new faces in Waco were confused about this, they didn't have a problem with it, and their engines idled just fine. I'm not trying to start stuff, just clear up a couple questions, from some of out out of town guests.

Usually, I do not post about rules when the discussion is about what the rules should be. However, this is about what they actually are. Read Section 13.7.1 and 13.8.1 of the RCPRO "Procedures". Also note the header of that document:

AMA Radio Control Pylon Racing Regulations
2009-2010
Rules Governing Model Aviation
Competition in the United States

The one-page "Rules" document coresponds to Section 16 of the AMA Rules. It just covers what goes up in the air. The stand at idle rule was there in the beginning, as evidenced in many of the flyers for RCPRO Club 40 to this day. Somehow it was left out of the one-page, but has been in the Section 13 since 2009.

This is why, for 2013, the Committee is consdering calling the one-page document "Section 16" and the rest, formerly "Procedures", "Sections 1 to 15".

The "Stand at idle" rule has been voted to be included in both Section 13 and Section 16.

We are currently at the very last stage of putting out the 2013 Rules. Just waiting for final form and approval of the suggested "Explanation" of the few changes.

There was a "trick" that they used to pull in Quarter Midget (.15). That class had an idle rule wherein the airplane could not roll. Some guys apparently just tightened the wheels up so much that they were like brakes all the time. Of course, they pushed the Quarter Midgets on takeoff like 424/426/422 so the "brakes" were not an issue for them. Just beware that someone may try that trick again.

Status: offline 		Ya I just got back from grandpa duty at the candy dispensary in Cedar Park. I tried to eat as much candy as I could so that the kids wouldn’t eat so much and have so high a sugar rush. How I can’t sleep and I’m so wired I can hand flip my prop faster than my starter. This will give me the winning edge; 5 Hour Energy and lots of candy.

If you aren’t eating candy you don’t have a chance.

Status: offline 		FYI, the Georgetown race is still on for the 17th but I have heard from only two people, and they did not affirm they would attend. Maybe everyone is all raced out after the Waco Championship. Whatever the reason for the non-response, our club COOK said he needs to know how much stuff to buy so we have enough Burgers and Hot-Dogs for lunch.

If I don’t hear from the flyers that intend to come to our race we will have to eliminate the lunch part of our event. So be on NOTICE, if there in not sufficient response by those intending to come to our race, those that do come should bring their own lunch.
