HI all, thought I"d post a pic of  my Skymaster T-33, that needs a full make over. The nose was damaged, so I thought I would change the acess to butter fly doors. I just cut the first door out tonight, and looks good.
more pics later as I progress.

If anyone can, you can Pete! I look forward to seeing this one progress. Much damage elsewhere? I am sure you are going to love this plane when its done, although it does focus the mind upon landing a little.
Regards Al

Pete, sorry to see the need for this repair, but it looks like you're making good progress. If you subscribe to RCJI Graeme Mears has been doing a great series on his award winning T33. Not the current issue, but the
Previous one has a lot of information on how he did the nose and the access doors.

Sorry about your mis-hap but as Ali said landing the T-33 take a bit of mind attantion. I have a Fie Bao T-33 and knocked the gear out a couple times in addition to nose damage learning to land. Thank God I have a good painter. This year I've had some coaching and doing a bit better at landing. I like the hatch mod you are making. I changed the nose on my Fie Bao like the Skymaster. Seems to work ok for me. At least I can get to the batteries.

Good luck on your repairs.

HI Ali, you are right on about the landing, the previous owner did a slam dunk on landing, hence the repair job I inherited when I bought the T-33.
I really enjoy a challange.
Also, just a bit of flap damage when the mains said, see you later.

Pete. That's not a challenge to you because I've seen you do a hard rebuild before. Heck. Where I live it's the only way to get something new. Lmbo.

I have a cook T-33 and have not had any problems landing it in calm air or some wind down the runway. Once the sock goes 90d though its not an easy jet to land. I have recently installed a 3 axis gyro and plan on using it for landings only. I have not tested it out yet but will try it out this weekend.

One of my club buddies softened up the N/G spring on his SM T-33......that reduced the tendency to get into a Kangaroo hopping P.I.O......

I've been use to flying an XL Boomerang. An easy plane to fly and land. i.e. pull off the power once on final and it almost lands its self. The T-33 flying with the same engine (P-160) weighs 17 lbs heavier dry hence a much higher wing loading. I had to learn to keep the power on till flair. The T-33 has a lot of drag with the gear and flaps down. I just had to change my mind set. Carring a bit of power allows you to carry the landing longer if needed to allow a smoother flair. Hope I explained it correctly.

I also changed my main gear to a lighter spring. Now it has some cushion when landing. Something I wasn't aware of when landing ( told to me by others watching ) I was hitting the nose gear 1st (ran out of flying speed) causing the incurable and increasing bounce. Carring a little power allows me the opportunity to hold the nose up in the flair.

HI all, I"d like to repair the flaps with the wing tanks off. Does anyone know how to remove the silicone / wing tank.I am just guessing, silicone was used, as in the picture.
Thanks Rcpete
