Here's mine. The conversion was done by Lance Smith. I added the brass comp screw, to stop comp unwinding in running.

Beautiful little motor. Runs Olly brew& spins a Taipan 7X4 at about 13K (Guesstimate as I haven't put a tach on it).

See you put on c/l carb martin

The factory carb does not allow any prop with rear overhang no clearance

Yes Martin, It's very tight in there. If I had any problems starting it and needed to choke it I'd need to rethink the venturi. But it really is a sweet handling motor. Rarely needing much flicking to get going.

The needle on that one (I also have a glow version) is underneath and a bit susceptible to landing damage. I could very easily turn a much shorter venturi and use the cinch pin as the location for the needle. This would allow a peripherally jetted venturi.

Another idea would be to use a prop with a narrower cuff, but the Taipan is pretty crash resistant - an important factor on a combat model.

The original design was an SY 09 size Chinese c/l speed engine. I understand that there's one on ebay right now.

The layout of most of these FIRE engines was inspired AFAIK by the Rossi 15 back in the 1970's.

Even the car and buggy motors.

The AP09 also has a big brother in the same case. I believe that while they call it a .15 that ir's more like a 2.3cc.

Anyway Hobbyking has them for sale at $32 each.

From an old promotional brochure - the range of Irvine Buggy engines.

Your "milled head" example is probably one of the .15's Martin

Here's the venturi with a bit more clearance to the prop.

2.8mm throat. peripheral jetting.

Glow version of the AP Hornet, revs like mad on Taipan 7X4

And the circumferential groove would be 4mm or thereabouts?

The groove is the same size as the NVA, in this case 4mm.

The NVA hold the venturi in place, as it replaces the cinch pin.
