Sun Valley Fliers in Phoenix AZ is going to host a Warbird gathering Jan 18-20. We will be giving flying and static awards. This is a first time event for us so we are going to keep the registration fee low, $30 at the field or preregister and pay $25.

We would like to encourage pilots to team up and fly either a formation flight or simulated dogfight using actual dogfighting tactics. There will be an award given to the best team. The judged flights will happen during the noon hour on Saturday.

Excellent news! Between the OEAF in October, the Tucson event in November, and now this one in January it's going to be a very busy season around here for us scale folks. The more the merrier I say.

We are two months away from this event so I will give it a bump. We should have weather in the 70's. Now that Desert Jet storm is gone, maybe we can see some of the Military Jets at Winter Warbird.

YO Quist,
Captain Ron here from Colorado. I'm trying to get a bunch of the boys from Pueblo together and make the trip down to the desert in January. I've been down a number of times and flown at the OEAF events. Bob Frey knows all of us. There's probably 5 or 6 of us that are putting together some plans. When will online regristration start and what will be the Web address for the process?

Will the event run all three days? Are you looking for quite a crowd and some big iron? Have ya heard from Brian Omeara? He owns a house in Scottsdale, should be there...........

Well they look big time too me!

By the way, you forgot to say they are of your own design....
scratch built at its finest!
Wish I lived closer.

Thanks Casey for the compliments but I can't take credit for the design of the Harvard. That one is based on the old Midwest kit. Darn shame it's out of production too as it is a very nice airplane to fly.

I wish you and the rest of the SoCal gang were closer too. We could sure have some fun! I may have something for your 109 by the way. I'll send you a PM with details.

Preregistration forms are on our club website, www.sunvalleyfliers.com

We are looking at some changes for Winter Warbirds. For the most part events out here are over on Saturday. Awards will be done on Saturday. Only a few people fly on Sunday most are traveling home.

Mike Peck and I decided to make Sunday a One day scale contest, they will be running the new US Scalemasters classes, ProAm Sportsman and ProAm Pro. There will be a cash payout for the top three finishers in each class. There will be no addition fee for registered Winter Warbird pilots.

This is a teaching event for newcomers to scale contests. Pilots having
flown in USSMA Expert, Team, or Advanced classes and pilots who have
placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, in any judged scale flying contest are not
eligible for Pro/Am Sportsman. Pro/Am Pro is open to any pilot.

Built-up models, ARC s, ARF s, gas, glow, electrics, turbines welcome.

Documentation Needed: Only ONE picture, artist s rendition, or box top
artwork of the full scale airplane that is modeled. Colors & markings of
the model need not match the picture. Model must be of a real aircraft.

Flight Manuevers: Take-off, fly-past, one horizontal circle, landing,
and flight realism are mandatory, plus five other maneuvers of the
pilot s choice. Help will be available in choosing the other maneuvers.

Entry fee for pilots only flying on Sunday: $20.00 Cash Prizes for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd

Come & learn to fly in front of judges without
pressure.

Call Michael Peck, 623-853-7630 for more information on the Sunday contest

Ron sorry about the slow response this week. I think I have answered your questions in the post above. Brian said he will be back in town in January so he should be there.

Yeah Quist, no worries.

Little disapointed about the venue swap for Sunday. We were gonna drive a long way and wanted to fly warbrids in a fun fly warbird venue all three days. We're really not interested in the scale competition part on Sunday. I'll talk to the guys but we may pass on this one.........Good luck.
