ok so i decided i wanted to try a brushless boat, made a great trade here on rcu and got me a nice genesis twin cat. its got a brand new leopard 4074 2000kv motor. it needs a esc. he told me a turnigy 180amp would make it fly on 6s. i'm not a rich man now that i got married lol and can't really fork out 90 bucks for a esc. i'm open for suggestions. been looking at the seaking 120amp but they are sold out at hobbyking. i want something fast, not gonna race or anything. prolly drive it once and sell it like everything else. also i been rcing 30 years but mostly nitro so when it comes to programming and all the jibberish talk about amps x cells and so all that stuff i'm quite green. any help would be very helpful. thought i'd throw a couple pix at you. if someone likes it i am always willing to some horsetrading...its in great shape!

I have Genesis and I have also a leopard 4074 2000kv motor. I am sorry to repeat your buddy but the turnigy 180amp esc is very good for this setup. I would call it a budget esc. Anything less is most likey waste of money.

I did waste some money first. This is not my video but it could be. The Turnigy Marine 120A ESC died durng first run. (I am not sure what motor I used those days)

Leopard 4074 2000kv with 4s is nice combination. As far as I remember right I used it with up to x447 propeller.

I tested Leopard 4074 2000kv also with 6s. It was working with x443 propeller but for x447 there was not enough torque, speed dropped. Playing with 6s generates heat and is a risky setup. Using smaller propellers may help, I didn't test those.

You can use 5S , no problem. 37000RPM unload is too much for a mono hull but that' s the best choice for a cat

Hey Barney

The T180 are Worth it http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8937__Turnigy_Marine_180A_Brushless_Boat_ESC.html

I got Two pieces of thoose motors for my future Cat. arriving soon hopely.

Or leadershobby, but thoose esc´s have no reverse:
http://www.leaderhobby.com/list.asp?type=categories&categories=74  esc delivers the needed power, and moore. But buy the 5,5 or 6mm bullit-connectors, and use 4mm. leads.

don't wast your time and money on part's that are too small.  Go 4s with a T180 and you are gold.  You can read about my trials in the Genesis thread on here.  Should have just bought the big stuff right away.  I would have had 4 years of playing with it, not 3 years of it sitting on the shelf.

well i got everything hooked up finally after waiting 3 weeks for my parts. i have a 6400 mah onyx 3s lipo i charged up and hooked it to the esc and guess what, SMOKE all it did was beep and smoke. never even turned the prop or the rudder! first thing i did was made sure my leads weren't backwards and they were correct. so i contacted HK and filled out a RMA form, now i have to mail it back and wait god only knows how long for a replacement...this really turned my stomach and i don't think i want to mess with boats anymore now that i'm stuck with 2 of them. guess i haven't told you about the super v experiance yet lol...i put the 3s lipo into that boat and took it to the pond, everything went well and the boat was quite fast on the 3s. i had to use a couple rocks to counter balance the brick of a lipo on one side but managed easily. i'm running it around and had it coming toward me and decided to see how sharp it would turn well lets just say it turns real sharp! the top hatch has a locking tab on it so i didn't tape it cause i didn't plan on horsing around and when it flipped the hatch of course come unhooked and sank while the boat just bobbed there. that little hatch is 24 bucks plus shipping. this boating is turning out to be quite expensive for me. i have 2 boats that if anyone wants to do some trading feel free to contact me....
