i recently purchased 2 Duratrax 5000 9.6v nihms.put them on my charger at 2 amps,showed full charge after 20 mins.went to use them,neither of them lasted 5 mins in my brushless Rustler.went to charge them again,wont take a charge.are they screwed?

Probably not. It is normal for many NI packs to give auto-peak chargers fits Thus causing them to shut off before the packs are full.

thanks for your reply.so what do you suggest? should i keep charging them and discharging until they take a full charge?

charge them at 500 ma for 15 hrs. They will be balanced, formed, and fully charged ready to use. They will be as good as they ever will get.

When dealing with this 500 ma rate that is c/10 it isn't real important that the rate be exactly 1/10 of the battery capacity and the time be exactly 15 hrs. It is important that when multiplied together they equal ABOUT 150% of battery capacity. In your case around 7500 mah. In otherwords if you had a couple old dumb wall chargers that don't shut off and were 400 ma or 600 ma they would both work just fine.

The 400 ma would require around 18.75 hrs and the 600 ma would require around 12.5 hrs.
