Just ordered a Unionville 8ft. Radial Beaver. Noticed that many folk are putting .91 -1.20 on their Beavers. Has anyone mounted a Gas engine on the Beaver? What size gas engine would be appropriate and what modifications did you have to make to the firewall. Will I get enough power from a gas engine to tow a 3 meter glider and/or put floats on so I could take off from the water?

I just finished the Unionville 8ft beaver and I put a 1.20 4 stroke on it. It has 42" floats on it and it has more power than it needs. I think a 100 4 stroke would be perfect...Seaplane

I got the 8ft "Turbo beaver" Model.

It had an OS .60 2 stroke. bottom end for power, especially on floats.
now it has a Saito .91 Blackknight 4 stroke. it has more than enough power. almost unlimited vertical. swinging a 14x7 3 blade prop.

I can't help you wioth the gas engine part. but this should give you an idea what the plane fly's like.

Smoky.

I recently purchased a Unionville Radial Beaver from another modeller who flew it with a G23 and the performance was great. (Very Scale Like and sounding) I was going to put a OS 120 in it until I saw a Weedeater conversion another modeller had done here. These engines were available for $20 at a surplus store near here recently. The conversion is easy and it seems to swing the right sized prop very easily. Guess whats going in my Beaver now?

I went to the Horizon website to compare the weight of a G-26 to a Saito 100. Wow, 53 oz. for the Gas engine compared to 20.8 oz. for the 100. That is a huge weight difference. So the question now is are people having to add weight to the nose of the Beaver with a .90 - 1.20. I would hate to turn what sounds like a good flying lightly loaded plane into a brick because I hung a gas engine on the nose and had to add a ton of tail weight to get it to balance. Any other recommendations for gas engines that might be lighter?

Martin Rousseau's 18% Beaver ( http://www.mraerodesign.com/ ) is designed to be used with a 38-45cc gas engine, so a gas engine is do-able. Move the avionics tailward to balance...

Zagi, with the 1.20 and the floats, mine balanced without any additional weight....Seaplane
