Status: offline 		I'm looking to buy some combat engines. Something like a Flora, Cyclon or Nelson. Plus some glass/carbon props. Any leads as were to find some? Looking for .15 & .36 size.

Status: offline 		Hmm... Is that because it's an AMA and not FAI? I grew up on .36 I have a quest. I have 3 clear wings. they are 45.5"x 15" Would that be the .36 or .15 size? Or do they use the same wing? They are new without mounts. I've been out so long, I can't remember details.

Status: offline 		Probably the .36.  I just checked an FAI and it is 43"x12" at the root. plus the tail.  They are very light, maybe 14 oz. with motor.  They don't hit the ground as hard as the bigger ones, and usually have less damage I think. They survive pretty good in a crash, likely because of the weight, but not a midair. (I haven't really seen many of the older ones for 30 years.)  Most people are using the FAI planes with a .25 LA or Magnum for 80 (75)mph combat.  They are only $50 pretty much ready to go, and 17 to a crate, so it is an easy thing to get ready, and works well.  Other people are more knowledgeable than me and will surely chime in.

Status: offline 		I wanna go fast. Like a Nelson on it. They have the recess for a pipe as the Fora engines... I had 2 36 before and had no recess. They were russian built... Bought them from Willcox in Whittier. Anyone have an engine they'd sell?

Status: offline 		Maybe it is for the .15 if there is a recess on the top leading edge.  .25's are used all the time on them.  A .36 may be overkill, especially a fast one.  Even the .15 is pretty fast, likely over 100, and they don't slow down on a 3 ft. loop. The Fora is pretty powerful.  Ask the guys you are going to play with and see what they are running.  I just fly mine on my own and even a cheap Rossi copy is pretty  hard for an old guy like me to keep up with on the FAI plane.

Status: offline 		These wings I have now have the recess in them. I'm thinking of buying a Fora. I'd like to get a used one. The new ones are expensive! I want to go fast as F'ing hell! Should I use my .018-60' lines or shorter?

Status: offline 		I got a used one from Yaro as above for about $100 less than new.  It has a few casting fins broken off but runs good.  It had a hard life.  He wanted to update to the newer 2012 model.  You could email him and ask.  I don't think he is in the used business though.  I think the lines are .4 mm or .016" by 52 feet. He has them cheap ready made too.  I think $7 with a nice reel.  Mine measured .018". I think .015" by 52' would be ok to fly on your own.  Just give it a pull test once in a while and after each boink.  He is around Toronto but I think his planes at least are dropshipped from Russia or whatever.  He has some shutoffs that are not needed but actually make the plane easier to start with the bladders, and will shut off if there is no centrifugal force. I got the $15 plastic one but everyone says the aluminum one stands up better.

Seeing you only want to fly for fun there's no reason why you have to use a strict line length as shown in this video of an FAI combat model.
