Hi,

Has anyone used the old plastic BVM nose unit (like from the 60" Sabre) with a separate air cylinder instead of the retract servo they were designed for? I have the plastic set and I'm trying to use them for this Sabre build.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah i have and they work fine. I would just make sure the trunnion in the gear unit is aluminum. BV updated them years back because that was a high failure point. The plastic housing with separate air ram is ok though..

I had a 60" saber many years ago and I converted it to all air. Not a problem. The only thing is the plastic retract frame doesnot hold up well when it is turbine powered. The weight gets to it. If you can find the metal frames or use the new gear it would be better. Dan Avilla

Hi,

Thanks, guys. I guess what I should have asked was how you installed the air cylinder. The nose cone/inlet lip appears to be in the way. Thanks.

Trim aircraft in Australia make the metal rotating nose retract and the extended air cylinder. I use this on my bvm Sabre. works a treat on grass, Ron.

Ron,

Do you have any pics of your install? That'd be very helpful!
