I'm thinking of swapping out my 26cc engine for a brushless motor,

Don't plan on buying any conversion kit,

gonna fabricate a mount from 5mm alloy plate and attach to the alloy 26cc engine mounts,

I would like to keep running 2 stroke but my area for running doesn't allow for noise,

Anyone know of a place to buy good quality but not very expensive 1/5 scale motors?

What kv rating would suit this truck?

along with Robinson racing extra hard 16t pinion,

Need to get some esc connectors, as the motor only come with the male 8mm connectors,

With this setup you should theoretically get about 16200 rpm unloaded from the motor. A gas engine will run somewhere between 19 and 21000 rpm, so a motor with a KV on 900 would get you closer to the rpm's of a gas engine. Or, you can add more cells, maybe 8, but i see the ESC won't take more than 6S.

I like the work you have done here!

Thanks,

I was thinking it won't have the top end of a gas motor,

But it will have alot more low down power than my 26cc engine,

may change the gearing after the first run,

Going to get an 8s capable esc for Christmas.

Yes, you will have a lot of torque at the bottom revs, so you have more to change the gearing on. Just don't overgear and overheat

My god it has some serious torque, Hope it runs as good on the ground

Some Very slight cogging at extremely slow speeds, but hey its not gonna be run as a rock crawler

Due to wet weather I never got to run the truck outside yet,

But I'm already thinking about 8s running,

What do you guys think of this esc?

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__24754__Turnigy_Trackstar_1_5th_Scale_Sensorless_200amp_8s_Opto_Car_ESC.html

It looks upto the job,

but there aren't any reviews yet,

Interesting conversion you got there! Have you weighed it and compared battery vs. gasoline-setup?

Sorry, haven't been looking at this thread in a while,

I'm unsure about the real weight difference compared to the gas engine,

But fully loaded with four 2s hardcase packs to make 8s,

I'd say that it feels a little bit easier to carry around than with a gas engine,

Haven't ran it yet, rain never stops here.

Trucks been sitting ready for a test run for over 2 months now,

Rain won't piss off, and its giving a chance of snow at the weekend,

I did however fire it up inside the house today and i can say its not recommended,
Brushless 1/5 is hard on carpet

first pull of the trigger the truck lept up onto its rear wheels and left a black mark on the carpet about a foot long,

Think I have the most of it cleaned with carpet cleaner, hope my woman doesn't notice

The snow arrived,

so running the truck is out of the question for another while,

I turned the punch control up to 100% just to keep the truck from falling and set the truck up on a couple spare wheels to test out the ubec I fitted,

Seems to run just fine,

Will turn the punch control to zero and post a vid of the truck outside when this snow decides to clear.

FINALLY got to run the truck outside,

I did notice one thing before I started running it,
that there was some resistance and the truck would not free wheel very well,

Do fg 4wd trucks free wheel easily or is it the tension in the drive belt that creates resistance?

After I took the video I continued to run the truck for another 10mins or so,

then i put the temp gun on the motor and it read 182f so I shut it down,

I'm guessing that the lack of free wheeling is holding the motor back and putting extra load on it,
Time to pull the drivetrain apart and see what's binding,

Any how il upload a vid shortly.
