Thanks for the pics and the time you put into this corvettez06... I havent heard much or had anything to do with Saito's FG30 motor's....I did have a Saito 180 and it is very powerfull and quite thirsty....I wondered if you knew much about this motor? I think I am going to use A MVVS 35 or a DLE 30 because I already have them....I like the Idea of a four stroke for the sound though....Cubs are special and sound so good with a four stroke ... I have never even heard a small gas powered four stroke in a plane....I have heard four stroke glow and 2 stroke gas but no 4 stroke gas.....I think the FG 30 is a 4 stroke gas...Is that why you are going to try it? I would be very interested in how well it works out...

Yes, it is a four stroke.   I already have the Saito fg-17 and fg-14b.  They run smooth, sound great, and just sip the fuel.  They are a bit expensive but I think they are worth it.

Good afternoon.  I just ordered this....should be done in a couple of weeks.  I decided on a DLE-35R.......I will have mine on floats as well.  I wanted another large floatplane....also have an aeroworks Bravata (awesome on floats).

I am putting on 6 inch Tundra tires.....break in engine etc......I do a lot of float flying here in AZ so this Cub should be awesome as well.  I can NOT wait!!

Hopefully this thread does get more active.

The Super Cub is very similiar to the 1/4 scale J3..........26cc to 50cc gas has been the range most used for gas power. My H9 J3 cub has a Brison 40 on the nose. Batteries are behind the back seat..........balances perfectly.........flies great.
My Super Cub is waiting for a DLE 55.........weighs about the same as the Brison. I put 1/3 scale cub tires on the gear.......just need to get the proper size music wire and make a longer axle..........I did it on my J3........works perfect.......looks fantastic.
Mine will be a sport flyer/glider tow plane.
I think most who want gas power will go with something like the DLE 30 or 35 for sport flying..............something bigger if you have higher aspirations.

I hava A MVVS 35 That is 6 1/8" from the Fire wall to the drive washer and weighs 1490 g , it swings a 20-8 prop at 7300 rpm .. Does that sound suitable? My buddy is trying to talk me into a ASP 160 twin For $358. They are on backorder ... That is a good deal but I already have the MVVS and Gas is cheap to run...I have a Gemini Twin That I am going to put on a BUSA 1/4 Cub I am building...I think the MVVS will be fine...I hope the firewall will stand it...

Model Airplane News has a short video of the plane with the E-Flite 110. Nice to see some additional footage outside of the Hangar 9 video on YouTube

We go to Havasu every year in November for the big event.  Right now we go to Lake Pleasant & find a cove or point.  We like points where wind direction does not matter so much.  Are you in AZ?

Yes. In Chandler.

Looking forward to your build and how you like the plane. I'll likely be ordering one after the 1st of the year.

Saw this post in the Dave Patric thread about the new H9 PA-18. Heads up to all of those who are thinking of going electric. You can easily go with larger packs or a larger motor as you are going to have to add lots of nose weight with the recommended set up. I haven't recieved my Super Cub yet, but after looking at the manual I think I'm going to try to get my packs forward by either extending the battery tray into the electric motor box, or by putting the packs under the motor box. I think under the motor box may be the way to go. With access through the bottom of the cowling it may be quicker to change the batteries than by having to go through the side of the airplane and removing the pilot/seat.

Hopefully one of these options will work because I am hoping to use the standard 8s 4000 set up that I have in all of my 25% 3D airframes. It's good for almost 3000 watts, so it should be more than enough even with floats. I have never had to add weight to any of my electric set ups, and they've all ended up lighter than going gas. Hopefully I can continue that trend...lighter is righter!

Guys,

Glad to see you discussing this model as we are very excited to bring this model to market!

The models are on the water and we expect to begin shipping to dealers and customers the first week of November.

This Super Cub model is based upon our existing and popular 1/4 J3 Cub platform with many scale upgrades and building modifications. I think you will find that the model is rather nicely detailed and offers a number of optional accessories such as a full depth cockpit, navigation lights, float option, and of course for you electric guys an EP battery tray/motor mounting box.

The model that is shown flying in the video is powered with a Saito 182 twin using a Mcdaniel's onboard glow which requires a 4500 mAh 4 cell battery (7+oz) bringing this models AUW to 17lbs 6 oz. This AUW also includes the full depth cockpit kit(6.8 oz with glue) and the 1/4 scale pilot figure(5.8 oz). If you remove these 2 items from the model then you will end up with an AUW of 16lbs 10 oz. The model flies light and has plenty of power to do all the cool Cub maneuvers.

The weight range givenf on this model reflects the heaviest & lightest setup I have flown to date. The Power 110 on 8S is the heaviest setup due to the battery placement which required 16 oz of nose weight to achieve the forward C/G listed in the manual so do not think this model is heavy as it flies as expected with a very lightly loaded wing. If you use the lighter Zenoah G26 engine and keep all your radio gear forward and do not install the optional items noted then you could easily target a weight under the minimum weight range specified.

I think you will find the Super Cub has all the great flight characteristics you would look for along with all the scale bits that make it great to own. I could go on about the differences in this model and other Super Cubs from the past and present, but I am prejudiced so order yours today and have fun!

A cub with a 160 twin sounds sweet to me too. That plane was ment for a four stroke.

Okay I am going with the Twin , Thanks Don ..I would love a pic and to know as much about how to set it up as possible..Do you use on board glow drivers etc?..Did you mount your fuel tank mid line about even with the spray bar or slightly lower ? I will use a 16 oz Hayes tank ...I am building a BUSA Cub and I have a Gemini 160 Twin for it but I dont want to rob the motor nor can I afford another Gemeni so I am thinking about purchacing it's clone ..The ASP 160..I sure wish they weren't on backorder....I havent even fired the Gemini Yet

Hi again,
One of the biggest changes you will have to make is building a spacer, about 1" as I recall, to locate the twin, which is shorter in length than a regular engine, out the proper distance from the firewall. I wasn't sure I should dump all these postings on this thread, since this is for the Super Cub and mine is the J-3. I could send some pictures via Email straight to you and not "hijack" this thread if you would like ?

Don

That ASP twin looks sweet. Too bad the best price seems to be at HK. I refuse to support them anymore now that they are blatantly copying 3DHS airframes. It's not fair to Andrew Jeskey and the 3DHS team who put in all of that time.

Anyways, guess I can spread the word about these now that I've got my shipping notice on a pair. 600mm tundra tires from Topmodel CZ - http://www.topmodelcz.cz/index.php?&desktop_back=hledani&action_back=&id_back=&desktop=eshop&action=zbozi_detail&id=6353 Yes they are very heavy, but at least I've finally found some 1/4 tundra tires!
