How is your GT-22 running, not much feedback on that engine?

Put an O.S. GT 22 in mine. Instead of buying the interior kit, added some 1/8" plywood and painted it to match the interior. Rotoflow 14 oz tank and two LiFe 3200 Mah batteries. Had to add a 7.2 oz ingot of lead to the firewall to bring the balance to the correct location.

Made some nice bezels for the landing lights out of Wilton cake-decorating tips. they're polished stainless steel and with a little fabrication, really add to the light output. Have solid and flashing red and green LED's in the wingtips (yes, you can fit two LEDs into each wingtip light...use a little silicone sealer to hold them in), as well as the flashing white on the back of the rudder.

Throttle servo on the side-wall of the cockpit. Have the same arrangement with my other H-9 Cubs and Aeroworks S-2 Cubs. Sacrifice some scale appearance, but functionality wins out. Pilot occupies the rear seat.

Stock spinner would need to be cut out to fit the Xoar 17X6 or 18X6 prop, but just happened to have a Tru-Turn that would fit it.

Jaw, How do you like this plane compared to your other H-9 cubs?

I've only run about 3-4 tanks of fuel on the test stand before installing the O.S. 22 in the SC, so I don't have any real flight information on it yet. It ran pretty well on the test stand with no problems. Should turn the 17X6 or even an 18X6 prop with no problems.

As for a comparison against the other H-9 Cubs, it seems to be constructed just as well and I would anticipate it should fly just as well. My other H-9 cubs have a DLE-20 in one and a DLE-30 in another. The 30 engined cub which was stripped and re-covered with Solartex, painted and with a Fiberglass specialties Super Cub cowl on it. It also has floats. I'll attach a photo.

Here's the photo of the interior of the SC. I have the same setup with my other two cubs. Using the larger LiFe batteries, they must be balance-charged, so you cannot bury them underneath the floor of the cockpit...they must be easily removeable between flying sessions. Again, it may not look real pretty up close, but up in the air, you'd never know it!

I like to mount the throttle servo on the side-wall. I can then have a nice straight control rod direct to the throttle linkage. No slop, no mess.

I've put Roto-Flow tanks in almost all of my airplanes. Never need to rip tanks out and replace the tubing inside again. You only have to replace the fuel-line and filter between the tank and engine. No more fuel stoppers and barbs to buy.

Let me know of any specific photos you'd like. We normally do our float-flying in the Paw-Paw area a couple times a year. Local clubs in that area put on float-flys. We tried a float-fly here in Portage (just south of Kzoo) last summer but the weather caused us to cancel the event. I put my H-9 floats on my Hangar-9 "Franken-Cub," which has a DLE-30 in the nose.

Radio Shack has some really small toggle switches that I like to use. The ones I get come with 3 or 4 different color covers for the switch arm (like red, yellow, green & blue). I like them because of their small size. I usually mount them on the control panel in the cockpit.

The stock tank is 17 ounces. I put in a 14 oz rotoflow and that's more than enough. The 16 oz Rotoflow is a little too long and would not fit as well. You want some space between the front of the tank and the firewall, to allow for gentle bends in the fuel line. I also drill out the additional nipple on the Rotoflow so that I can use it as a fill line. An Aeroworks fuel dot on the right side of the fuselage works well for filling the tank.

You mentioned you are using the Saito 180. Is this the single cylinder version? I am installing the Saito 1.82 horizontal twin. Just curious which version you have?

Is there anyone who has installed a Saito 1.82 twin in theirs? I am looking to install mine but the manual is a bit vague as all it shows is a few pictures and no information.

I got my replacement aileron from Horizon Hobby and everything lines up perfect on both of my wings now! Thank you Horizon! Only down side is that the shipper put a value of $450 (guess that's why they don't sell the ailerons seperately! ) on the customs paperwork, so I got hit with a bunch of taxes. The shipping paper inside the box clearly showed that I paid $0 and it was a replacement part, so I think I can fight it.

Now if the electric motor box and battery tray would just come off of backorder...

I am wondering what you guys are using to glue your wing tip lights into your wings...Ca doesn't work that great on plastic so I was thinking maybe epoxy..I use Epo Grip epoxy because it doesn't run all over the place .. The instructions say to use med CA and maybe that will hold but I just thought that maybe silicone or epoxy might work better...Any thoughts on this ?? The scotch tape that held the string on for pulling the wires thru pulled the paint off when I tried to remove it...The colour underneath is silver...

This happened to me last night. They should start attaching the tape to the covering instead.

I'm going to try using the covering that I cut out from the landing light area to cover up the peeled paint. If I can get it to stick that will be easier than trying to find paint that'll match.

Thanks for the tip! A friend also suggested the auto touch up paint section at the local Canadian Tire if somebody can't find any model paints locally.

Mine is wrinkling lots too. It was good when I took it out of the box, but the wood is shrinking big time in our Canadian winter. It's the worst case of ARF wrinkle I've seen, even my flaps and ailerons have warps in the plastic now. Just be careful if using a heat gun, I have read a few reports of people melting the plastic on the flaps and ailerons. I'm hoping that using some cardboard to to deflect the heat while shrinking the covering will do the trick.
