I love how traxxas calls it a "innovative" low CG chassis.

But we now have the option of buying a slash 4x4 thats been turned into a car!

Might be a good rig. I know a couple of other 1/10 car's that I have run offroad required alot of work to keep together.

Since the slash's driveline is pretty good, it should make this car hold up well.

Id like to see with with some nice tamiya bodies tho. Hoping the wheel base and width match up with most bodies.

I wish they had a brushed version tho. Looks like right now there is only a vxl version.

And IMO that fancy radio just needlessly ups the price.

Its about time Traxxas started offering some of their models are ARR!

hmm could do that to my pede 4X4 lol
only would need traxxas part 7422, 5823, the arms, and pieces on the front end (the foam bumper holder) with tires


only thing I'm wondering is how they call it 1/10th scale... as the slash 4x4's wheelbase was way different that a 1/10th scale car
I'm basing it on the slash due to the center driveshaft being the same as the slash's(and not the shorter pede 4X4 one)
just looked the pedes even too long for a typical 1/10th car wheelbase.
this will probably closer to 1/9th scale or 1/8th scale as traxxas always fudges the scale ratio numbers

syco I didnt even think of that.
I assumed that since the chassis was specific, that the center shaft was shorter as well to bring the wheel base down.

The site shows the wheel base as 12.8, total length as 21.7

dont have a 1/10 road car at the moment, but that does sound longer than a 1/10 wheel base.

I also just noticed that it has long shocks front, and XXLong rear shocks. Thats much longer shocks than cars would normally have.

Id like to see one of these up close now. Id personally be MORE likely to want one if its bigger than 1/10 scale.
Granted, getting other bodies to fit might be hard, but a larger offroad car just seems more fun to me.

according to the Traxxas site, the car has a slightly LONGER wheelbase than the slash does. AND it's wider than the slash. This thing will be freakin huge compared to any other 1/10 scale cars. It's actually bigger than the 1/8 scale WR8. All in all, it's an awkward sized hog of a car that fits into its own category.

i already have a slash made into a rally. and the kyosho 1/8 bodies fit it very well so there should be no problem of them fitting the new rally.

Wow I think it will be a winner, looks to be more durable than the Tamiya TA01/02 & the DF03r chassis.... The fact that is bigger than a standard 1/10 size will make a huge difference off road. Watch out HPI...

well I had said that cause a brushed version would be cheaper....and there are many low cost brushless systems one could drop in later on.

But, now that I get a better picture of how big the car is, I can see why they wouldnt do a brushed version. Im sure the titan 550 could do the job, but it would be slower than any 1/10 car due to the extra size and weight.

Traxxas needs to post a pic of this car next to the 4tec so we can get a good idea of its size.

Looked up some specs:
Nitro 4tec
Width: 7.6
Wheelbase: 10.1
Lenght: 17

1/10 Rally
Width: 11.7
Wheelbase: 12.8
Length: 21.7


x01
width: 11.6
wheelbase 15.9
Length: 27

So, just as wide as the X01, but about 3 inches shorter.

This is an oddball size, but I kinda get why they did it. Alot of rally cars have a short wheelbase compared to their track width. The rally is nearly as wide as its wheelbase. this "should" make it very stable even on rough terrain. It shouldnt be easy to flip this car.

Im starting to want one. And traxxas most resent "new" models didnt do much for me.

from what i have seen it is the slash 4x4 but without the big front and rear bumpers. and the width & wheelbase are still the same.

its really close
slash 4x4 specs: Rally specs:
width: 11.65 11.7
Wheelbase: 12.75 12.8
Length: 22.3- 21.7

So its a touch wider, with a touch longer wheel base, and about the same length. So if you put a rally and a slash side by side, they should have about the same footprint.

Thats a pretty good sized car.

There is no question that at least 80% of the parts are right off the slash 4x4. But thats not really a bad thing IMO.

as for being a 1/10 it should be classed as a 1/8 because 99% of 1/10 cars are way smaller.

agreed.

I also wish they had added full wheel wells. We all know how dirt piles on top of the slash's chassis. Same will be true (maybe more so due to lower hight) of the rally.

Guess we will just have to make our own

wouldent get to caught up on scale guys, but this might help

1/10 Rally
Width: 11.7 297mm
Length: 21.7 551mm
Wheel base: 12.8 325mm

Ford Focus 2012
Width: 1823mm
Length: 4558mm
Wheel base:2648mm


Width: 1/6.14
Length: 1/8.27
Wheel base: 1/8.15

So comparing it to a new Ford Focus it looks to be 1/8th scale but with a widened Track and flared wheel arches by 313mm (about 12") each side

hmm kinda torn convert my pede 4X4 back to a slash, and get the tires, front bumper, body post mounts, and a 1/8th rally body or leave it a pede 4X4...

Gah I hate decisions... Convert the pede 4X4 or my 1/8th scale buggy(that was made from a 1/12th scale jammin .5 CRT )

I've always wanted a rally car though...

i had the ped 4x4 but it didn't seem to fit into anything i was doing. so i stuck with the ped 2wd and the slash.

I mean, traxxas only had the 4tec and the 1/16 rally for cars (im counting out the X01 cause only a tiny portion of hobbiest can afford that thing)

I have had a few of the more common 1/10 cars with rally tires, but they still have very limited offroad ability. This car looks like it will actually be decent in dirt, trails ect. You wont have to have a wicked smooth track in order to drive.

As i mentioned, they should have added wheel wells, to keep dirt out of the chassis. Otherwise, I think its not bad. Something I will probly own...in 2 years...when I can find a used one for under $200

i know what you mean by a traxxas road car but they should of gone for a real 1/10 so it could of been raced with other 1/10 cars or a much bigger 1/8

don't think the going bigger than 1/10th is an issue its that they label it as 1/10th where its about the size of a 1/8th.

But as current only traxxas bodies will fit where if they made it a standard 1/8th everyone would have been better off. Traxxas for having more bodies for people to get, and slap on, and everyone else cause rally might have got enough competition to start their own class, and companies might have produced more bodies, and vehicles

Also overseas rally does get raced from what I seen in some vids it don't seem big over here in the states though

I know it will be tough. However, as it's based on a wide 1/10 truck, not only must the body be stretched out of proportion to accommodate the extra width, but the longer arms won't help the performance any when the vehicle is driven onroad. Just like traxxas's 1/16 rallys. Additionally, it doesn't really fit in a class. It's too large to be 1/10 and it's not really a 1/8.

IDK about the body proportioins. It looks good to me in the vid, but wont know till you see it 1st hand.

And I guess it kinda depends on the type of rally you like. If you are a evo or subby fan then the body probly dont appeal to you much.

But many rally cars are puegoets (i know thats not spelled right, lol) and other hatchbacks. And many of these get widened tracks with flared wheel wells. Thus, they look fairly wide for their wheel base.

as for the longer arms not helping onroad...it aint meant for onroad. Its a car meant for rough surface and mild jumps.

While I really wish traxxas had takin the slight extra bit of time to make it a proper 1/8 scale, I do like the idea of a tough offroad car that will be fast. And the wide track should still mean that with proper onroad tires it will still be fast and fun for onroad. It wont handle like other 1/10 or 1/8 onroads (simply due to a higher CG and ride hight) but should still be fun on or off road.

It does seem odd that traxxas made a new center chassis, but didnt take the time to make the wheel base a normal 1/8. They always seem to get things half right. The IDEA of this car and its intended use is good. The final product is OK, but could have been better.

I don't like the body. A car manufactures licensed body would have been better. I wonder if the HPI Ken Block body would fit?

If we are talking about a car that can do what it's scaled up brothers can do than it should at least do ok on-road. Rally covers just about any surface you can think of.
