ORIGINAL: Rebel Flyer

Nice looking Mark... I do have a few questions.

1. How far back did you have to move the engine back?

2. How much weight did you have to add up front?

3. What equipment, if any did you have aft of the cg?

4. Are you using the small inboard flaps that you have to cut out?

I want to do the same mark and I also have a DA85 with the Slimline muffler. I also have a Quadra 100 and have not decided which motor to go with.
The Quadra is about 10 pounds too.

Thanks for the input. Rebel

Thanks Rebel
We installed the engine directly to the firewall . We had to cut the lower part to allow the installation of exhaust. By the way, the Slimline exhaust is very wide and touches the cowl sides. Therefore, we had to push the cowl sides out about 3 mm on both sides.
We added about 3 kg in the nose above the engine
We installed the tail landing gear, ruder end elevator servos + the reciver behind the cockpit.
Yes, we use the inboard flaps. We conected them to the main with guid pin like the full size plane

Unbelievable craftsmanship.  I have to tell you, that when I first looked at the photos of your plane, I thought " why would they be posting photos of the restored aircraft?"  The top far right photo must be of the real thing.  You gentlemen are true master craftsmen.

You should all be very proud!

Dany, Avi,

You have completely mastered this Spitfire. Every detail is incredible and as a whole she is truly an awesome airplane. Looks great from every angle in the air or the ground shots.

I volunteer at the museum where the restored aircraft is flown quite regularly. Here is the link
http://www.militaryaviationmuseum.org./

Along the back wall of the hanger is a picture when she was found in a school yard in your country. The restoration and your replication is perfect . . As I'm sure the pilot is just out for afternoon tea!

Regards, Mike

You need to post some thoughts and pics on the RCU thread. "Spitfire Brotherhood". Such a plane should be seen by all.

Hi Mr Golan
Your work and that of your friend is awesome. I work on a airfield with several Spitfires and I can confirm you cockpit it bang on accurate now if you only had a 14 inch tall person you could ditch your transmitter.

Hello all,
Thanks for the kind words and compliments. This project was interesting in doing both the background investigation as well as the scale detailing and flying.
Working with Dany is challenging because everything must be accurate and more then that-unique. Other then the nuts and bolts almost everything was made by hand out of everyday items such as wood plastic or any other "junk" in the workroom. You can only imagine how many times we called each other in strange hours of the day (and night) saying: hey! I've got an idea how to make the panel\guns\flaps and so on…
On the other hand we followed the KIS rule: keep it simple .
Part of my job in this project was to install the radio and power equipment without violating the cockpit. I had many nights spent routing and modifying the entire plane just to go around the cockpit. Looking at the entire plane one can find a new item every time even after hundreds of hours with it.
Thank you for spending the time to follow our project.
Avi

Beautiful work!
You mentioned that 3Kg (6.6lb) of nose weight was added, what is the plane total weight?
If you make a trip to Denver, bring your Spitfire, I would love to fly mine and yours in formation!
Great Job again!
