I'm building a Top Flite P-39 Airacobra. I'm am trying to make it as scale as possible. I bought the cockpit kit from Top Flite to use as a template for the overall size but I hate how lame it looks.
I find myself in desperate need of some really good cockpit pictures. Maybe restored ones. I don't know if any of you have ever heard of "Spooks", I would really like some interior shots from her. It
was a P-39 recently finished, around 2007 if I'm not mistaken. I can't find a SINGLE cockpit picture of it and I know its a P-39Q, which is rather important because that's the particular model I'm building.

If anyone would be awesome enough to help me out, I'd really appreciate it. I'm having a great time building it! It's just the dang cockpit!!

Status: offline 		Great cockpit! Of course Ty's cockpits are very detailed and great. Pix of them on other P-39 threads, VQ Warbirds and TBM sells them. I'm not sure if Ty makes them for the TF-P-39. I am working on mine, wing is complete and ESM GEN II main retracts are in & working well on he bench. I'm electric, Hacker 60L with Ternigy Nano batteries, 5000Ma, 2 ea., in series. Castle 120 HV ESC. I found some great P-39 info on Wikipedi today. Great pix & historical info and a good P-63 King Cobra pic. Good talking to another Arizona guy. I call it, "Zona No Ballogna!" Stand by for our 9 month nearly perfect flying weather. wallace. tharp

Status: online 		Below are some links you may find helpful during the build of your Airacobra. I think the aircraft you refer to named "Spooks" is actually "Snooks 2nd". The only restored P-39 I am aware of with that name is on display in Buffalo, New York and has been for many years. The only one I can recall finished in recent years is "Brooklyn Bum 2nd" which is painted very similar to "Snooks 2nd". That aircraft is now owned by Rod Lewis in Texas but was, for a number of years, owned and flown by The Fighter Collection in England. Hope some of this info is of use and good luck.

Status: offline 		Chad, thanks, some really great detail pics. Not every pilot hated this aircraft as too often stated. The Russians loved it as an air to ground Attack ship. Notice that it like the A-10 was built around the cannon and that the first model had round wing and stab tips. In the thirties it was thought that round wing tips were faster, ala the Spit etc. The faililng, and I believe I found this on Wikipedia was elimination of the supercharge which killed the high alt performance. The main Bell engeneer stated that he was called away to Europe at the time of flight testing and he would never have let that happen. It certainly is one of my most interesting WWII subjects. Chuck Jaeger and Robert Hoover both flew them just after basic flight school. I believe Jaeger talks about them in his first book in a mostly favorable light.
