You should be able to get the mixes you are looking for. However, I had to mess with the wing and tail types before I could program the mixes that I am using. The wing and tail type on the DX8 does not always end up being what you initially think it should be. So, ... if you are not allowed to program the mixes you are looking for, go back to the wing and tail type and try another type.

I recently helped a friend set up his DX8 for Dual Ailerons and Dual Elevators with a 6ch Rx. When you choose a Wing Type and/or Tail Type, the choices for which channels will be used are made for you. If, for example, you select the Dual Elevator Tail Type, Aux2 or Aux3 may be chosen. If you only have a 6ch Rx, then you cannot choose a Dual Elevator Tail Type and you have to use Programmable Mixers instead. You can Inhibit a switch in the Switch Select menu.

Hmm..... I recently fought this exact same issue of the DX18 assigning a second elevator servo to a channel not present on the rx in use.

IIRC the solution is exactly the same for the DX8; go into the setup menu and assign the channel the radio has given to the second elevator to the slot/channel you want e.g. if the radio gives the second elevator to AUX3 or something, just move that channel to the AUX1 position in the setup menu.

I know it sounds confusing but it's really pretty straight forward if you forget your previous programming experience and don't over think it like I was doing. If that doesn't work (sorry but my DX8 is put away waiting for my brother to come get it) perhaps Andy Kunz from Horizon will drop by and answer the question or you could possibly PM him?

You can't re-map channels in the DX8 like you can in the DX18. You would need to create a dual elevator mix by hand if you didn't want it going to the channels it puts them.
