Have many years experieince mounting smaller glow engines but recently purchased the new DLE 35 (1st gasser) for my Giant Ugly Stik and need help with mounting question. I'll be using the stand-offs that came with the engine and my question is - the standoffs are threaded one both ends, one end to mount the engine and the other to? Do you drill the firewall and use washers/lock washers on the inside firewall or is something else required for mounting? Thanks for helping the gas newbie!

Depends on the plane, but yes, the you use bolts and lockwashers. Use the biggest surface washers that will fit inside the motor box from the back into the threaded stand off. USE LOCKTITE on all of the mounting bolts.

There is a mounting template in the instruction manual, and if you're lucky, center lines etched on the firewall. Cut it out or copy it and use it to mark your bolt holes, if you dont have the manual, you can download it and print off that page. Tape the template to the firewall to drill the holes

Thanks Andy, appreciate the reply! I figured that was the case but being this is my first gasser I thought I would ask. Checked my paperwork that came with the 35, no mounting template so I'll check the website.

The manual for the 30 is here
http://www.dleengines.com/dleg0031.html

Not sure if the template is the same or not, you might print one and see if the holes match up

Edit: here you go

Mounting on the 35RA is not the same as DL 30.Botton two holes are the same but the top is wider.
Have been flying the 35 for several weeks .Great little engine, love it.

Thanks! I haven't had my hands on one as of yet so I wasn't sure.

The Red Wing link has the 35 template, looks like he did it in CAD himself.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the info and links, makes it much easier to locate the bolt holes. I was really struggling to find nuts on hand to fit the bolts so I made a trip to the local hardware store and discovered they are metric. Now, I can get to it!

Hi Bill,

Can the engine turn large props? I'm looking for something that can turn 21-22" props (maybe 10" pitch),  but don't want to go to a 55

that would be a big load for any 30-35 cc i would think unless went with thin props. I do know someone make a 45RA but i cant remember the name and EVO used to make a 45 with magnesium case that was just a bit more in weight but could swing a 22x10 at around 7,000 if i remember correctly

DL826,  why don't you start your own thread so we can ask questions directly to you rather than posting the same thing in many other people's post?

One other mounting question? Are the shorter stand-off bolts used to mount the engine to the stand-offs or to mount them to the firewall? Thanks

It would turn the 22 prop but I doubt very well.I like the 19x8 Xaor ,prop of choice.Depends on what type of flying you want to do.I am sure it would turn a 20x8 pretty well. Like the 35 better all the time.Put a bowman ring in it but the factory ring looked good and compression was good.
Bowman ring did add some RPM.Only have three flights on the Bowman ring but compression is even better then factory ring.

bcchi, Just how much more power does thee 35cc DLE have over the 30cc DLE ?    Is it the more power you like or the better exhaust location.  Thanks   Capt,n
