O.K, what it says on the box is: Wingspan 74", no fuse length. I will look on the plan.

i keep thinkin and I wonder if the Diamant would be suited to a 160 to 300 watt outrunner... the way i saw it fly was kinda fast cause the wings are thin, if memory serves me right.but with a small poweplant to get to tude then cruise around the plane would be really be enjoyable to fly... I think the fuse was in the 30" - 38" length..it really looked the sailplane part well..

Built one as a free flight back in the 70s. It needed to be trimmed out to fly faster than my other gliders as it tip stalled pretty easily. I had maybe 10 or 15 flights on it before it hit a tree and was shredded.

This was before I was into RC and I would say it will make an excellent lightweight RC sailplane.

Very pretty plane when finished.

I'd fly it as 2 channel only and don't worry about ailerons.

But that's just me.

Putting ailerons on the wing in the picture would be an undertaking (pun intended). It's not what would be called a robust wing. If it's sheeted, then simply add in some spanwise TE where the ailerons would be hinged and the LE of those new flappers and after sheeting all you'd need to do would be trim them babies out of the whole. But I doubt the wing is sheeted. And if that is the case, that wing really isn't going to be strong enough to carry the load the new flappers are going to put into that sparse structure.

Strip ailerons aren't going to put any less load. They will spread it out along the whole TE, but unless you added diagonal ribbs or somesuch, there would still be more load than those bones would like.

Why Bother working on it, I suck at doing build threads anyway....

Why?

Because it shows everyone who hasn't the opportunity to build a glider like yours what it's like.

Your pictures so far have reminded me of some of the kits I've got stashed downstairs. I pulled one of them out back the 2nd day of this thread and moved it where it was safer. Spent an hour or so going over the plans. Thanks to this thread....

Oh, well, O.K. I actually started putting the electronics to the Fuselage, but I have run into some problems. 1) :How to make the elevator work, as a T tail, Could I put a servo in the back? 2) :How to hook up the rudder, a pull pull or a pushrod set setup. 3) :How and where to mount the release servo.

T-tail? I've built a number of 2meters with the horizontal tail above the fuselage. They all worked excellently with a push-pull flexible cable 'pushrod'. I used a braided cable that fit the tubing with very little slack. MOF, one of them that was built back in the late 70s is flying today.

You could put a servo in the back, but you could also put a right angle bellcrank... you can actually use a 45degree crank as well.... that's actually better..... or flex cable, which is simpler.... In either case, placing the control horn for the elevator is the trick to saving weight back there.

I used a 'torque tube' horn with all mine. It places the horn along the center line of the verticle stab and that makes for easier building. The only difficulty is the horn. You'll have to devise your own for the center line location. It's actually quite easy if you can solder. Otherwise, you route the cable out the side of the stab to a regular horn that has been positioned so the connection point gives a 90degree angle to the hinge line.

Servo in the back?

Yes and no, depending on the weight and power of the servo.

Rudder hookup?

whatever you wish, they both work

I hate to suggest this but as you're finding out the Sterling sailplane kits were far better as ceiling decorations than they are as flying models.

The normal way of activating a T tail from nose mounted servos is to run a pushrod to a 90 degree bellcrank inside the fin or you could use a small diameter cable and sleeve pushrod setup. The loads on the tail surfaces will be very low so even the smallest cable and sleeve would work fine. But use cable and not single strand music wire for less friction in the pushrod sleeve.

You'll still need to build a suitable hinge into the top of the fin and center of the stabilizer.

For ailerons what you should have done is to use the existing trailing edge on the outboard part of the wing as the ailerons. The ribs out on the outer portion would then be shorted by something like 3/16 and a new trailing edge cap put on which would serve to stick to the covering, hold the trailing ends of the ribs together and as a mount for the aileron hinges.

Although the Diamant has a 74 inch span the wing is very narrow. So there's not a lot of wing area. Work hard at keeping the weight very low or the model won't fly well at all.
