icepilot -> Vampire or Panther for Wren 44 gold?? (10/15/2012 2:24 PM)

Hi guys!
Does anybody know if there is a Vampire or a Panther suitable for the Wren 44 Gold out there?
I have found an all-wood kit, but since I'm not a carpenter, I need something that is moulded
and almost ready to go!!![:D]

This one is the right size... but I'm not sure how much room it has inside. I know a 44 is only about 85mm to the outside of the mounts. (about 77mm on the can) SO... it should physically fit into any 90mm EDF.

It's very cool... and I would have built one for my 44... if it wasn't $950. (Too expensive for a little jet)

Thanks, Tony -
yes, the price seems a little high, depends on what's included, of course.
I have sent them a mail, and will post the result here.

Looks like just the airframe. One problem is there are no rudders (required for turbine use in the USA).

Would be a neat project.

I never understood that rule from the AMA. A model will fly fine without one. Especially the small ones. (oh well)

Found another, slightly bigger Vampire from Jetarrows.com http://www.jetarrows.com/_en/de-havilland-vampire-m-1-8-1450-mm/
Better price and probably the right size - price for kit, retracts and shipping to Norway approx 875 USD, this one is interesting!

Looks like the same kit. Same specs and same photo's l

I just got the Panther from Easytiger Models. It is very very nice. Will be a very fast to build. Mine will have a P20. Very happy with the quality and the price was very cheap.

You are right - I didn't pay attention there!![:D] Well, it's a little cheaper when they ship it from Europe - could be a fun project!

That one flies with ease on a 6S EDF setup or even powerd by the P20. MW44 would be overkill for the airframe I think. Overkill is fun as long as it's not over weight [:)]

This is only a 1700watt midifan setup. :-)

As always when it comes to these small models Henke is spot on! I have recently just sold one of these vampires that I flew for some 40 flights with a P-20, and that was perfect power. I fear the 44 will be too much power and more importantly too heavy. The model was a job to land with the P-20 ( it floated on and on for ever) With the extra wing loading and possible higher idle thrust of the 44 I think it would be a real challenge. Great plane though, and I loved flying mine. Kit was basic but very well moulded. I had rudders fitted to mine, but if I did another one would probably not other. Just not enough improvement in flight for the extra weight.
Regards Al

Thanks, Al - I suppose I'll just let the 44 sit in the Red Leader Eurofighter and get to know that plane better!![:D]
Glad to hear that you are planning a trip to Norway next year!

Still the P20 has pretty little thrust at idle, 170grams or so (100grams less then the competitor!)
