I bought one last night so I can see if they are any good.

They will run you about $90 shipped.

Pros as I can see thus far are the 2.4ghz radio, 2s lipo/ lipo charger and 4wd. Thats a good pile of stuff for under $100.

Possible negitives: 2 in 1 esc/reciever. Tires may also use a uncommon mount (not hex and bolt)

Ill do an unboxing and review vids once mine arrives.

This is a brushed model. But with a light and more powerful 2s lipo it should prove to be peppy.

I generally do not like anything smaller than 1/10 scale. But during the winter months I usually pick up a cheap used losi or something to drive around in the garage or in the house. I go used, cuase most 1/16 or 1/18 (even brushed) models simply cost more than Im willing to pay (considering how little Ill be running it) But at $90 RTR/new I figured Id give the redcat a try. I like redcat's 1/10 brushless models.
Redcat HAD a tremor model before which they stopped selling a couple years back. So I think this is a revised version with new electronics and possibly driveline. Once I have tested the model in stock form, I may install the brushless system from my 1/16 turnigy rally car (if it fits) and see how it holds up.

My truck arrived today.

couple of quick things:

it has a 2 cell Li-ion battery. 8.2v fully charged.

The truck has a slipper clutch! This impressed me. many 4wd models this size do not. And the power the motor makes on this Li-ion battery makes it needed I think. I actually got it to pop a wheely by going in reverse and then pegging the throttle. I could hear the slipper clutch whine, taking most of the jolt.

The steering is quick.

the tires have a common hex, but it does use a screw to hold the tire on (the screw goes into the stub axle)

The radio uses 3 "AA"s. Its a tad smaller than a flysky radio. Its not so small that it feels weird in my hand, but it is small enough that it should be good for kids as well. It has duel rate and trims. Its pretty light.

The motor does get warm. A heat sink upgrade is availible. I suggest it.

Other upgrades like full ball bearings (the driveline has them, the wheel hubs have bronze bushings) alloy capped oil filled shocks and a few other bits are availible.

I havent driven a full pack threw it yet...and its gonna rain for a few days. But once I get it out in the driveway Ill have a better idea how fast it is. I drove it in the garage and it seems faster than the average 1/18 model.

The shocks are friction type. That said, they are smooth and seem to do the job fine.

I may take it to the LHS's indoor track this weekend. It should be fun on the SCT track!

don't look too bad
can't be worst than the HPI Recon which costs a bit more, and prolly costs 200X as much to repair if one thing breaks.

not a fan of 2 in 1 things personally.

now that you mention it, they kinda do.

I cant wait till the rain stops and I can take it for a spin outside. I wanna find some area with packed dirt. I think thats where this truck would be the most fun to drive. That and at the LHS's track.

I did alittle bashing of the tremor at the skate park today.

considering this is harsher treatment then most models in this price range see, the tremor did well.

The top speed isnt impressive, but the acceleration is nice and quick. And it could be a tad quicker if I tightened up the slipper clutch some, as I can hear it whine if I punch the throttle.

You can see the friction shocks dont do so well on jumps that high. On normall dirt running, it doesnt make a big difference. But for larger jumps the oil shock upgrades would be nice.

just uploaded a better video.
Now with 2 full packs run threw I can say I get 10-12 minutes per charge.
The little truck has taken the abuse thus far well. I did have a rear shock get stuck compressed. They are just friction shocks and the sand/dirt I was running in was damp. some got stuck inside the shock. I just had to force the shock to open and the dirt came out...good as new.

Hi,
you got lucky with the dog bowl incident. The motor isnt the part to worry about. While water can cause rust and will shorten the life of a brushed motor, brushed motors will run while completly under water.
The speed control/reciever and servo parts however do not like water. RC's that are waterproof have special apoxy or seals in the case's of these parts to keep water out of them.
So steer clear of water. And if it should happen again...unplug it and let it dry...do not run it while wet. when water gets to the electronics and power goes threw them thats when bad stuff happens. So if it gets wet, let it completly dry before using again.

Brushless motors are indeed faster. But you will have to replace many parts of the tremor to do so. The servo, radio, speed control, motor, shocks(imo) and the bushings (upgrade to ball bearings)
The tremor is a good truck as it is. But there are other models this size which are better if you want a insanly fast mini rc.
Also, and this is my opinion after having a brushless 1/18 scale model...their small size means they dont handle speed well. The tremor tops out under or just at 20mph. A brushless system will make that easy 30mph or faster. But at that speed these small models just cant handle bumper or rough surface at all.

If you did want a go-fast mini, it would be easier and far cheaper to pick up a losi mini-t rolling chassis and go from there.

also, I am a redcat dealer. At the moment, they are out of the oil filled shocks. Ill try to remember and PM you when they are back in stock.

the waterproof parts will add some cost....
but a traxxas vxl3sm system will fit and add lots of power.
The servo from a traxxas 1/16 mini should fit as well, and is waterproof.
Another trick is the battery. Most brushless models use a larger 2s lipo...say 1500mah or higher. The stock battery tray will not fit larger than a 2s 800mah.
as for a radio thats up to you. Traxxas 2.4ghz, losi spektrum, or a cheapo skyfly 2.4ghz radio.

Keep in mind that the reciever and speed control are 1 unit on the tremor. So upgrading will mean re-fitting parts. A separate ESC and radio will likely take up more room.

Im not saying it cant be done, it certainly can. But it will be a bit tricky.

If you are willing to forgo waterproof electronics, then there are much cheaper brushless setups out there. hobbyking has some esc/motor combos that are less than $50. They probly have a mini servo as well. And they carry the flysky radio(call it a turnigy I think) so you could get most of the parts from them and it wouldnt even cost more than $100. The traxxas waterpoof esc/motor alone will cost that much.

Also, I am waiting to see if redcat does put out upgraded stub axles. The stock plastic ones seem to be the weakest point of the drivetrain. The plastic diffs will likely handle more power...especially if the slipper clutch is set right. But the plastic stubs have broken even with the stock setup...and they are a pain to replace. But I heard redcat would have metal upgrade ones.

Redcat doesnt currently have a brushless ESC/motor for the tremor.
The brushlessesc cooling fan is missleading. Those are left over from the older version Tremors. Over a year ago there were a brushed and brushless version tremor models, but they share little in common with out trucks....other than their size.

here is a esc/motor combo I would buy:
http://www.hobbypartz.com/hobbywing-ezrun-brushless-system-for-rc-cars.html
For a radio and reciever you could buy the redcat one for the exp pro-8e-s30 ect models.

For the heat sink, pretty much any heat sink for a 380 size motor should work.

Likely tho, redcat will get a shipment that will include all of the out-of-stock tremor parts.

http://www.hobby-estore.com/Redcat-DSM-2C-2-4GHz-Radio-Includes-Radio-and-Rec-p/rc-dsm-2c.htm

The link didnt want to work for me...
but if you are looking at the redcat dsm radio and reciever than yes.
To my knowledge, you will have to replace the reciever AND radio. The radio I do not believe can be binded to a different(seperate from esc) reciever. If I find out im wrong on that, Ill let you know.

When it comes to any parts from redcat you wanna buy, PM me and Ill let you know what prices I can do for you.

I have been tempted to go brushless on mine just to see how the truck will hold up. I personally like the stock speed myself. But at a Redcat dealer I like to know the limits of the models.

Ive put a traxxas VXL brushless system into a redcat tornado and run it on 3s lipo....just to see how it would do. The stock brushed system is good and on 2s lipo will do over 40mph. A vxl system on 3s tho is nuts. The buggy actually held up fairly well. The driveline does have issues over time...and this is mainily do to the lack of a slipper clutch.

The tremor has plastic diff gears, and at least for now, plastic stub axles. These are weak points for sure. However, it does have a slipper clutch which can absorb some shock and help protect the driveline. So depending on the setup used and how the slipper is set it may hold up well with a mild brushless setup (IE, a proper sized system run on a good 2s lipo) Such a system should achieve 30mph....maybe even 40, which is crazy fast for a truck its size.

This impressed me. many 4wd models this size do not.

Ive had several mini/micro models in the same price range as the tremor. They all ended up on the shelf fairly quick...or I found myself wanting to upgrade them soon.
Other than installing oil filled shocks, I like my tremor as is. The included battery gives it more punch than most RTR brushed 1/16 models. The 4wd gives it good traction, the radio feels decent (and is a bit smaller, good for kids) and it has decent steering for a 4wd.

The truck has some weak points, Im not trying to oversell it. The plastic stub axles are lame, and the 2-1 unit (fine if you wanna stay stock) is a downer if you plan to upgrade. But the overall package is very good for $100 truck. Its 4wd, lighter and quicker than most $100 RTR minis.

If you want to go brushless:
Brushless system...
mini servo...
Radio and reciever...

Thats all you NEED.
But the heat sink, alloy shocks, ball bearings are all a very good idea.
Higher speeds will wear out the bushings fast.
And higher speeds with stock shocks will be very hard to control.
And heat sink is obvious. Brushless motors will run cooler anyway, but the aid of a heat sink will just help it last even longer.
And if they do release metal stub axles, Id highly reccomend getting them as well.
