Status: offline 		Well I wanted to build another 35 size plane and there are none better than the Ringmaster.  I came across this OTS Legal Ringmaster and I ordered it on line.  Boom, it was here in no time.  I started the build last week and I am very happy with the kit, she is starting to take shape.

Status: offline 		By Friday she was well underway and I wanted to build the wings a little stronger so I added sheeting to the rear and capped the spars.I also used the sliding leadouts provided. I did get some covering done to the wing but then the superstorm hit and power was out.

Status: offline 		I got my first C/L flight in last month after decades out of the hobby and I'm pleased that it was with a borrowed Ringmaster (pictured). (Thanks Dick!) I got so dizzy I had to give the plane back before the tank ran out, but the appetite is truely whetted. I have a RIngmaster in the box that will be ready for the spring.

Looking good! The extra sheeting and cap strips are probably unnecessary but if you do not want an all out competition OTS model they will not matter (it will not be OTS legal with those modifications). The best flying Ringmasters come in at 24 to 26 oz (the best I have ever done is 28 oz and it flies fine) so try to keep the weight down as much as you can.

Yes, the outboard wing on S-1 Ringmasters has been known to break near the root in violent maneuvers especially in a strong wind. I have seen several do just that. However, you can strengthen the wing internally and still have an Old Time Stunt legal Ringmaster. Fiberglass, carbon fiber veil and plywood have all been used to beef up the wing root (sometimes in combination). For myself, I used carbon fiber tubes to stabilize the the outboard wing root after people told me the wing was flexing during square loops.that seems to have worked just fine. I had to do some major surgery on the wing to do the modification which could have been easily done during the original construction!!

When you sheeted and cap striped the wing you changed the external wing configuration and made the model no longer OTS legal.

  Oh well she will be a fun fly ship... My Shoestring Stunter is all stock and by the book So that should be OTS legal I think.

            My ringmaster twin just arrived and that will be my winter project

Hi Don, The Goldberg profile and other models in that series(Buster, Cosmic Wind, Shoestring) are

not OTS legal. They are legal for Classic stunt. Actually, I think the mods that you did to the

Ringmaster model will result in a better flying model. If the competitive spirit overtakes you,

your Ringmaster can fly in the Profile 40 event.

I'm reasonably new to this forum just touching bases with a few threads.

I had the pleasure of attending this years Sydney Australia leg of the Ringmaster fly-in
hosted by My home club, Kuringai Model Fying Club.
I give a fellow club members  Ringmaster  a few flights and had a ball.
Just got a plan printed out to build 2  Ringmasters for next years fly-in.
One will have a OS Max H40 for power. Combat style....lol
The other will be more tame with a Enya SS30.
Looking forward to more Ringmaster discussions.

Status: offline 		Well I had the Ringmaster out and got her up yesterday. SWEET! The grass was a little high so we had to hand launch and then she tracked nice and smooth, climbs and dives crisp and clean and then I went for the inside loops and outside loops. She pulled thru these and still held line tension.
No wing overs, figure eights or four leaf clovers yet so more latter.

I put it all together to check the fit the wing still needs sheeting on the center section. I always put together and take apart  many times...

G'day Fred, the SS30 is a great choice, and will have a comfortable excess of power (I'm using one in a 520 sq.in, 37 oz model, and it's plenty even for that). As for the Max H40 version - this I have to see!

Status: offline 		Okay .... here is the beginning of my Ringmaster build, a half-A Ringmaster Gee Bee Z, on 3/16 in. (5 mm) paper covered foamboard. The patterns have been laid out on the board, awaiting temporary fixing with a glue stick and cutting. At 19 in. (483 mm) wingspan, it will be powered with an A.C. Gilbert .074 Thunderhead engine. The 3 in. (76 mm) dia. cowl is from a GNC vitamin supplement bottle. The plan comes from a scaling of the Ringmaster Jr. reduced quarter sized detail on the original Sterling plan. The fuselage is adapted from the late Keith Laumer's Gee Bee Z profile CL plan. The Ringmaster's cockpit and rudder are retained.

The A.C. Gilbert powerplant has already been prepared with over a half hour bench break-in time. She's eager to run.

It is not OTS legal, it is anything but illegal, it is a variant.

Who said the Granville Brothers didn't try CL, or that A.C. Gilbert didn't try 1/2-A Proto racing? The large cowling will add streamlining, as you can see.

Do you think I will be able to get away with it, flying it at next year's Ringmaster Brotherhood Fly-A-Thon? Comments?

Status: offline 		Well I got back to working on the Ringmaster twin and she is looking good to me.  dennis I have seen your twin on the Broterhood of the Ring site.
Where do you fly?   I live in the upper Bay Area of MD about 12 miles from the PA line and I was thinking of going to Brodaks this year. 
A pair of Ringmaster Twins would be sweet at the Brodak fly-in.

I haven't read all of the threads but as to having the fastest gonzo Ringmaster your a little late and a lot low on power. Dee flew one with a Nelson 40 and was well over 100 MPH. Your 40 wont get much over 65/70. Still you will have one fun model to burn the circle with.
