Afternoon all, I recently acquired a used Conquistador. It appears to have an Acme .18 engine - I can't seem to find any info on the engine via the internet. I'm looking for specs on glow plug and carb settings. Does anyone out there have any info to point me in the right direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

These people seem to recommend an O.S. #3 plug (long).

Tks Nitro, I saw that previously but was hesitant because it stated "Race" engine and a long plug...maybe I'm being too cautious.

Does it have a plug in it now? Perhaps we could match it up (short/long) with a picture?
Also is it definately an Acme engine? My search shows an engine with a blue head by Team Infinity.
Oh and ignore the term "race", it is just a buzz word...often when used the item is anything but.

Hello again Anthoop, the plug appears to be a standard style, I have a couple LC3's and it is shorter than them. The engine has "Acme" embossed on the body but the heat sink is a turquoise color, somewhat blueish. I guess if the weather gets somewhat warmer here, only 35 degrees right now, I will pop in an R4 and go from there.

An easy way to determine what reach plug the engine requires is to remove the head (and head button if so equipped) and install the plug with one washer. The bottom of the plug casing should be flush with the top most part of the combustion chamber. If it is recessed out of the chamber some its too short and if it protrudes into the chamber more than 1/2 a thread it needs a shorter reach plug. Of all of the engines I have ever looked at and had in my hands, the only car engines that needed short or medium reach plugs were engines made by OS. Everything else needed long-reach plugs.

Long reach plugs in engines that need short reach plugs sometimes benefit from a long plug because it raises compression slightly which most of the time increases power. Conversely, short plugs in engines needing long plugs can sometimes take a little extra nitro without needing to shim the head.

Getting chilly here too...I do not like it.

I can find pictures of that engine but little else...but you can bet it is exactly the same as a differently branded engine.
Good luck and let us know how things turn out. Maybe you could note the carb settings you find works, may give others a ballpark when searching.

I actually found a manual for the car in the UK, should be here next week. I'll post any good info I find. Hopefully we'll have a couple decent dys to test it out. Tks again.

Got my manual today, unfortunately they did not include any info about factory engine settings, just info for break-in. I tried to get the engine started last week but it hardly had any pinch(even after preheating) so my wife just ordered a new .18 from Gotnitroonline.com for $65. So I should be good to go as soon as the weather turns decent (probably 3-4 months ). I'll post what the factory settings are as soon as I get to look at the new engine. Something tells me I won't see it til Christmas  .

Would be unusual for an engine not to show any sign of life even with little pinch left....maybe have another try whilst wiating for the new engine?
Good luck on the new one when it turns up..let us know how it goes.
