Can anyone tell me what plane this is? I bought it at a swap meet for 30 bucks and the seller didn't know muchVoice about it. It looks really cool though with the huge radial cowls. It has no rudders which seems like a problem waiting to happen witha twin, so i will have to do some minor surgery to fix that. Regardless, it looks like a really fun plane to fly. Thanks for any help!

It is a Grumman XP-50 Skyrocket. Only one was ever built. The prototype crashed shortly after takeoff due to an explosion in one of the turbo-superchargers. Project was cancelled shortly after that.

Thanks for the reply! Just looked it up on wikipedia. I'm thinking about using 2 46ax's on it. Should be a rocket.

definietly the grumman skyrocket. Yes rudders would be a good thing and maybe even enlarge those vert stabs

XP-50 - a tricycle gear variant of the XF5F.

Rudders are a bit of a "necessity"...
