Not happy with the bulging saddle tank when filling. Because I have the saddle tank fill first, once it's full and the main tank starts filling the inside curve of the saddle tank will pop out.

So remove paint and aluminum tape. And Hysol carbon strips to stiffen tank.

I could have switched fuel tank order but I want the front tank to drain first.

After a bit of shaping on the profile of the seat. Used exacto blades and mini planes.

Next will be with sand paper and dremel.

Hi,

What is your problem with the rear tank ? If this one tends to flatten it's on the external face not the internal one !

Take care of the rear tank is very close to the turbine and aluminium tape is not sufficient for a long time......on mine i used some ceramic BVM peint and now there is no problem (white paint).

The problem with the rear tank is the inside curve, closest to turbine bulges out.
This doesn't happen when filling rear tank. Once rear tank is full and front tank starts to fill, then the rear tank starts to bulge.

These braces have helped but it still bulges. I will have to slow fill rate.

The rear of the tank has ceramic blanket under the tape. The rest of the tank is just aluminum tape. The previous 2 owners of this jet have run it like this without issue. I will keep an eye on it though.

On yours, do you fill rear tank first or front tank?

You need to fill the tanks from the front one so no problem but when draining too fast against the tanks the external part of the rear one deforms so I used a variable speed pump (i used a very high speed pump 3 liters/mn).

Got a light kit for Christmas so time to take it all apart again

Started working on wing tip lights. Cut off the existing bump. Made the clear piece from 1/4" acrylic. Drilled hole to insert LED. It's a neat effect because the light makes the entire piece glow. I think I will back the piece of acrylic with aliminum.

Sorry pics not working right now

Ah perfect thanks! Have you ever used the http://www.braincube-aero.com/ lighting systems? I just installed a set in my F-16 and I'm shocked at how bright they are. It's a bit mind blowing. The price is downright cheap for what you get but the components seem first rate. I took her out into direct sunlight and lights were 100 percent visible.

Please keep posting all of your info. This thread is a highlight!

Hey Pepper.

Thanks for the positive comments!

This is the first lighting system I have used/installed. I will take a look at the one you posted for my next project though! Looks slick.

Finished assembling my friends f18. Back to the euro. Patiently waiting to maiden.

I weighed it today. 34 lbs with fuel in UAT and no fuel.

I have a pilot in the mail from UK.

Will get back on working on cockpit.
