I just bought a different pinion gear for my HSP Brontosaurus. Its upgraded to brushless, and I changed the spur to metal. I bought a Robinson Racing 18t pinion, but the meshing is very poor. I checked with the plastic spur and its the same bad meshing. How is a 48p spur not meshing with a 48p pinion? What do I do? Do I need a different spur? Can I put a different spur on the HSP? OR is the pinion not good?

And I think I figured it out...well I destroyed the 48pitch pinion, but I guess the metric 48 (0.6 mod) will work. I didn't realize it was tamiya (metric) sizing.

Loosen the motor mounting screws and ease it away from the spur gear until there is a hair-sized gap between the two.  There should be a very slight "wiggle" between the two gears.  Tighten the screws and see that the motor held it's position.

I have never had an issue with meshing the gears, and i got a nice amount of wiggle, but the pinion was smaller in its teeth, very slightly, but i was thinking it was just me, but I now know its that the spur is metric, slightly larger teeth. At full throttle, pinion skipped and when i looked, all pinion teeth at 45 degree angle, so at some point the bite of the gears was bad. Has to be the size.
