Do you usually shrink your base covering before you put the trim pieces on?

G'day Bill,
YES, you need a good taught base for your trim.

Cheers

alan is correct. get everything tight first. If you're using monokote you can apply your trim using the wet method. this where you use windex with amonia. cut your trim and peel off the back as usual. Spray the windex where you want the trim to be. Apply the trim and the windex will allow you to slide your trim where you want it. Squeege out the windex from under the trim and let it dry. Now iron it down.
The windex with ammonia will activate the glue on monokote. Then all you have to do is iron it down for a trim piece thats tight and is where you wanted it

Use less heat when you iron it down too than you would use for initially applying Monokote. The wood pulls some heat out of the material when you're applying it which neccesitates a higher iron setting to get it to stick, but the cooling effect is much less when the base is Monokote, not to mention that the stuff sticks to itself better than it does to wood. If you use the normal iron setting for application, you may find yourself shrinking the Monokote as you apply the trim, causing wrinkles that will be hard to get out.
