Opinions on which one I should buy? I want to be able to fly high, but mainly which plane would be better for upgrades in the future? I have experience flying the Champ, UM T-28 Trojan, and Firebird STratos.

The  T28 . A much better plane than that cub.
It's powerful enough stock and the only upgrades you might want to make  are adding functional flaps, and ...maybe .... ugh.......retracts     This too is a good next step up from the Stratos BUT it's a bit more expensive and you would have to buy a good DSM2 radio like a DX6 or 7 so you can add more planes down the road.

It is your choice.

I own the I'm Champ t28 and cub. If you are into more stunts go for the T-28. More for lakes soaring go for the cub

I think no matter what you be happy.

I enjoy flying the SC she soars like a dream at high altitude. And is a larger champ. I do not do stunts

If you have mastered the Champ and UM Trojan, then by all means, get the T-28. Be warned though, the larger Trojan doesn't fly at all like the micors. Make sure you use dual rates and that the CG is spot on with the full size T-28 Trojan. Mine flies straight and level hands off at 50% power and is a dream to fly. I have the dual rates set at 60% aileron and 75% elevator. She is very tame with this setup. BTW - I also have the HZ Super Cub and fly her everytime I go out, she is the first plane up in the air and the last. She warms me up first and then relaxes me from the rigors of flying my warbirds.

The T28 is a little more performance than the Cub would be. Watch the CG closely and it will land nicely. The Cub can be a floater. IMHO
