I have been trying to find some time to mess around with the HL Jadgpanther for a while now. I finally got around to beginning it and wanted to show you what I've done. As you all know, I cannot ever leave anything alone, so the fact that traverse doesn't exist in HL's vocabulary for a TD, I figured I'd have a go at it. Not havng any access to machning eqipment, I figured I'd keep it simply and use Styrene and brass. I actually thought this would be very easy aftr the pisode of doing this in my Stug III. Well, as usual, I was wrong to assume that. It had a few challenges, but nothing I couldn't work around. I first made a simple baseplate from styrene so that there was a fixed point to mount the system to. This was easy, aside from figuring what position it had to be mounted in. I did not permanently mount it until the entire system was built. Anyway, I first made a brass sleeve attatched to the mantelt for the main gun to slide through and also to solder another mount for the mantlet assembly to mount to the traverse system. I made this so that it could easily be taken apart if it had to be worked on. I made a slit in the brass tube with a pin guide for recoil. The elevation is simple enough too. I used a screw that rides in a brass rail to move the main gun up/down. Traverse was a little more involved and I used a servo for this too. It consists of some spare bushings courtesy of my Tamiya spares and some brass stock. Well, pictures are worth more than words. I tested it out earlier today and all works very well. For those who are wondering, there is no interference with the gearboxes, which are the Mato 3:1's.

Neat! Now you have to go out and run it over sticks, stones, and everything else to make sure it doesn't bounce loose.

Yes Herman, I think it will stay in place, just fine. Of course, I have been wrong before.

I got most of the work done on the JP. Thanks to Buckeye, I got the plates for the engine deck and the screens. I finished painting and installing them today, along with the decals for the tank too. A little weathered, but what else is new? I still have more to do, but wanted to post some progress before I forget how to find the thread...

Joe,
So how long did you leave those little bits out to rust and how did you keep them from blowing away in "Sandy" ?

DON'T THINK!!! The more you think, the more you do, and then you'll end up doing to much. Stop, look, and consider it done. It looks great as it is now.

Looks fine Joe. The Heng Long Panther/JP is a very good runner. But the appearance and camo paints were horrible out of the box. I have never even seen a JP in the panzer grey like they sell it. I stripped oneof my JPs and repainted it dunkelgelb. It has been on the back burner too long. I need to move it forward soon and finish the camo work then make it battle ready. I hope to meet up with you tomorrow for parts and such. Keep plugging along.
