I would like to purchase an RC car, though I know nothing about them. I would like to spend up to around $500, though I'm willing to spend more if necessary. I'm not sure if what I want exists, though, here are some of the things I'm looking for:

- built in cam that can take pictures, video and stream to a computer, phone or tablet
- ability to control over the internet via a computer, phone or tablet
- something that can drive through a house as well as go over rocks and grass in the backyard
- easy to drive

Can anyone point me to some models that might have these features?

Thanks.

I cant think of anything that u can buy that will do all that... I think the US military have things like that...

So basickly u want a RC crawler, on board camera connected to a computer that controlles the r/c car, and with internet for uploading oh and u want it easy to drive.... u dont ask much lol

I would reccomend buying a 1/8 crawler and sticky taping a laptop to the roof with a old 3g mobile phone as the modem. then u will have to make and devolop some software for the PCM and get that to work the steering and throttle, and u could use a real life person like Adam Drake to be the interface to make it easy to drive,

I was  guessing all of those features wouldn't be available in one unit, though I'm surprised, there are robots that do these things so I figured the technology would be available for cars....

yeh, getting camera and controlling over internet wont be easy.

There are however wireless FPV camera systems. These will take video and send it wirelessly to your TV....thus you can drive the RC via its radio and see whats in front of it.

slapping one of those systems onto a cheap 1/10 or even 1/8 scale exceed rock crawler might do.

supply and demand.... what possible advantage could all that bring to the RC world that can be done allready, but much more simply?

see these days we have digital proportional controllers, that work great at controlling our cars, why use a computer
With the speed of the cars these days, and the lag on a internet connection, it would be like driving with a 2second reaction time
There are very capable crawlers, these days and there are didicated video camera's nowdays too

Robots and rc cars a very different, 2 types of geeks there, Its hard to look cool playing with a robot...

Ok, I could attach a GoPro to a car somehow and just capture video that way, without being able to control it remotely. Not exactly what I want, though at least I can shoot some video.

1. I had an RC 10 back in the early 80's and haven't used an RC car since. Can anyone recommend a fast battery powered modern equivalent?
2. Is the rock crawler a unit that you would recommend looking into for climbing over small rocks and grass?

Thanks.

but I would be looking at a traxxas summit, mainly because if its size and weight, it would be a very stable platform both fast and ok for crawling over rocks.

actually there was something I saw a few years back that did mostly what the OP wanted (except the grass and rocks)
it was a rc car that had a FPV, and connected to a network via wifi so a PC could control it.
It also could be set to some kind of sentry mode, and patrol an area.
No idea its name though as it piqued my interest, but from what I remember the price was insane
