Status: offline 		My clubmate Bob Fisher turned up with this conversion today. We didn't get around to running it, maybe on Wednesday.

It's one of those Chinese $60 post free ASP 15's TBR glow off ebay. Bob's simply fitted it with a spare 15 Euro push/pull Parra 15D head.

It just required a little machining to the ASP head and a slight liner top skimming to get the clearances right.

Very, very nice. I hear the .15 ASP's are one of the best sports .15's out there.

Status: online 		I have 2 a 12 and 15 that I got from Just engines in 2005 with conversion heads run well great carbs (rc)

note the 12 and 15 head are the same diameter same thus slight over hang on diameter of the 12 but inside skinned to fit martin

had I realized at the time engine case almost same size would have gotten 2 15s rather than one of each

Status: online 		How do the ASP engines run?

The 15A is a more timid engine than the XLS, so it might do better on larger props.

Status: online 		Did a run on my 15, just wanted to see what would happen with a huge prop put on a wood XOAR 12x5 we did get 6800, sure we could have coaxed to 7K but no point
It was quiet on the stock muffler (no surprise on the low rpms) light exhaust smoke oil was grey/brown good response from idle will re-run tomorrow with a proper prop 9x6 or 9x7

Looking at the data sheet on the AA taipan 66 replica did 14600 on the 8x4

Status: offline 		That is true for the "AA S.66 Taipan Repro." Martin, but do note the prop figures were achieved after Maris Dislers "breathed" on his example.

I was very happy with mine. I am reluctant to put it into service. It is such a pretty engine, but I know David Burke prefers his engines to be used, not to become cabinet Queens.

Those Strato propellers are nice, and are a real find, they would date from the late 50's to mid 60's. I know of a stock of them, new old stock, I get them for $2 each. Still perfectly useable today, they featured an airfoil that even "Joe Supercool" complimented, high praise indeed.

Status: online 		I don't have any of the early ones myself so I cannot make a direct comparison, but I believe that "everything" is changed, from a different carb and crankcase, to the bore and stroke.

The older ones had a reputation for being low on power, but perhaps like the OS LA it would make a good diesel.

Status: online 		OK GROUP got a little time to [put the old ASP A series 15 on the bench for a run Davis ABC mix
all props were wood
XOAR 10x5 9500
zinger 9x6 9700
strato 9x6 9200
zinger 9x4 11000
zinger 8x4 13000

idle 3400 3800 good response to WOT

grey smoke light color oil ( not black)

runs well but a mild engine, starter used first time, then hand flips 5-6 after prime

very quiet with stock muffler martin

Status: online 		That's pretty low numbers though. Should get something around 15000rpm on an 8x4 prop form a 2.5cc engine...
Even the PAW 09 will make 10500rpm on a 9x4 prop, as a comparison.

Status: online 		Mr Cox will have to get some APC grey composition props< I thought a little low also , then may be very mild timing and porting,thats why they have the new series, will wait and see what the chap comes up with on the new series with the para head, mine would certainly fly a plane however on these numbers. still a lot of wind martin
It may improve with a little more time running only about a half hour on it, also it was never run on glow

Status: online 		I've never liked the zinger props, seems to give a high load and low trust. Both MAS and APC are better then I think. The Bully props that looks like APC are quite nice too and comes in sizes in between most other props.

Status: online 		Mr Cox found a black MAS 8x5 just re- ran 14500 also used fresh fuel when I did the run last 2 oz in can so quite sure ether loss too martin

Chris,

I don't think he had it that long ago. You may be thinking of the MVVS 15 glow converted to diesel with the Parra head.

The engine may get a test run this week.

Status: online 		re looking at the low numbers think the low RPMs gotten 2 factors, the wood zingers and ether loss using the last bit in the can, on the fuel alone may have cost 500 rpm loss it came back like a champ on fresh fuel and APC prop, martin
