Status: offline 		Howdy everbody, I have an 1/8 scale buggy, starts right up, idles just how it should, but everytime I go to give it throttle it dies. Doesn't bog down or anything, just dies. The guy at the hobbie shop said the exhaust pipe is clogged up. Said to run it with the wheels off the ground and keep throttling it up until it clears itself out. If I run it at high rpm without it being under load, don't I run the risk of blowing my engine up? I sure would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks

Status: offline 		It is unlikely that the exhaust pipe is causing the problem and yes, high revs-no load is not the best advice.
What engine is it and have you tried adjusting the mixture, will it accelerate if you open the throttle slowly? Is this something that has just happened or is it a new/secondhand buggy...sat around ages..etc?
Diagnosing stuff like this is hard over the internet so the more information you give the better.

Status: offline 		My buggy is a Matrix C1 RTR, the engine is a new one, a Cen .30 racing engine. My son and I have just broken in the new engine and it ran fine but would not go full throttle. Then we had to let the buggy set for a few months. Cleaned it real good,drained the fuel, put after-run oil in the carb and the engine and then put it on the shelf for about 3 months. Then we got it back out, put fuel in it and started running it again. But it seemed like we could not give it as much throttle as we could before we put it up. Then I started leaning it out a little at a time and that helped us give it more throttle but I didn't want to lean it out to much because that's why our engine is new now, because I didn't know what I was doing and leaned it out to much and locked up the old engine. It will accelerate when you open the throttle slowly but still can't get it to full throttle. I know the engine is good, it starts on the first pull and idles like a champ and runs good with what throttle we can give it. It has to be something I'm either doing or not doing. I hope to learn from this and we appreciate you being willing to help us. Thank You

Status: offline 		WOW Thanks man. That is the most informative article on nitro engines I have ever read. I think every nitro person should read it. It has something for everyone, from veteran to begginer. I just wish I had been able to read the article right when we got our buggy. Would have saved me a lot of headakes and saved me some money too. Thanks again losi motor man, appreciate it. And thanks to Anthoop also for the help.

I try to give every racer i see this flow chart. I have about 10 copies in my pit box and I have to agree with you very racer from young to old from newbie to veteran racer. I pass them out like candy on Halloween. I urge you to print it out and give it out.

Status: offline 		Sounds too rich, if you ask me. You noted the engine was new (and a lot of them come tuned extremely rich). Also, if you are worried about the exhaust, just open it up and clean it out.

That flow chart is great. I have it pinned to a wall in my work area from back in my rookie days with nitro engines. It helped me a lot.
