I've got the bug to rebuild the old Cub. It was thrown up in the attic after a crash some 10 years ago. This was the model that got me into the hobby; my grandfather and I built it together when I was a child. He passed away last year and I've been meaning to get it back in the air for some time now. It's got a long way to go, so I may as well start now!

As you can see the covering needs to be completely re-done. At this point I'm planning on using Coverite fabric. Aside from that, the worst structural damage is the cracked firewall. I'm planning on ordering the replacement laser-cut parts from GP. Because the firewall is epoxied to the two horizontal plywood plates supporting the front of the fuselage, a portion of those will have to be cut away. I'll probably reinforce the area with plywood and dowel the new firewall for extra support. At this pint I'm planning on mounting a Saito .72 or .82 inverted. It'll of course be getting updated radio gear and all new servos. I'll attempt to keep this thread up to date. ALL comment/suggestions are welcome. I am by no means an experienced scale builder/fabricator, so I'll need all the help I can get

You might look at solartex for your covering it is not as heavy as coverite and they make a cub yellow then you just put clear water based poly on the fabric good to work with

A great rebuild opportunity; I've got a Goldberg Cub in similar condition that I'm working on and It's been fun so far!

I'm using the model as a testbed for new rebuild, detailing, and covering techniques. It will be my first fabric covered model, too.

Happy building!

Graeme

Sounds like a fun project. What brand covering are you planning on using?

damage does not look too bad at all..... new covering will definitely dress it up a lot! at 1:4.7 scale it is a nice size bird..I'd go with an .82, or a .91. It you can get scale articulating landing gear (robart, J3 gear etc) it will make an amazing difference to the ground handling, and the landings.. I'm not sure if it is available in that size, but it would be worth checking out......
