Just wanted to say hello to the members of a great forum. I started with RC back in 1985 when I was 11. My first was a Tamiya Hornet. Other interests took hold though High School and College, but now that I am 38, I find myself gravitating back, but this time to the tanks, which I could never afford back then. I just bought a old school Tamiya King Tiger, which was never opened. I made a rookie mistake by trying to save a little money with this kit. Problem is, I didnt realize the new type electronics were so much money. Just the DMD and MF were more than what I paid for the tank kit. Oh well, lesson learned. I also bought a new Tamiya FO Tiger and a couple of HL tanks for the boys (Pershing and Tiger). I am looking forward to picking your brains in the very near future.

Thanks!

Hi and Welcome Cruiser133. There are lots of great people here. Ask about anything to do with R/C Tanks and someone here will have and answer or will be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes, I am sure there will be headaches as I am changing over to the new electronics on my KT. For instance, does anybody have any ideas on mounting the newer style turret rotation ring and motor. My lower hull, being the old style lacks the mounts...

You might want to have a look at your HL tanks for that answer. This is the one area where the crude but effective HL turret rotation works better then the Tamiya set up.

The easiest way (and what I have done) is to buy the newer upper hull from the AAF Museum or check around on eBay.

The other way would be to buy some styrene tubes the correct diameter and mount the Tamiya rotation mechanism. You will also need to mount tubes to secure the turret wheels as well. The HL set up is pretty simple and would involve a ring and the mechanism, and mounting it too.

I would buy the hull.

Oh, and welcome!

Thanks guys for the input. I ended up going to OzArmour and getting the HL ring and turret motor. I have also emailed Daryl Turner and he is good people. I ordered his idler and brace kit.
