I got a Carl Goldberg Tiger 2 40 ARF with a Magnum XLS 46 2 stroke and it flies good, but a guy at my club switched over to electric and was kind enough to give me a brand new Magnum 91 4 stroke. What do you guys think of it for the Tiger? It fits perfectly, just wondering if it's too much for this airframe or if I should reinforce the firewall.

Thanks

I'm not a Tiger II flyer.
However, a 90 size 4 stroke in a 40 size plane seems way to much.
Why not upgrade to a 60 size Tiger II and use it there.
A member has one and it flies well.

Good Luck,

The .91 4 stroke is perfect for the .60 sized Tiger.

I have both the Tiger 2 and the Tiger 60...They are fantastic flyers...Mine are not the ARFs , mine are the kit models...The 46 2 stroke motor is a very good match for the Tiger 2...I like 2 strokes in tigers...The 91 is a little big for the Tiger 2 although they do usually need nose weight...The 91 is going to have a lot of torque and you may find the little Tiger dosent handle it too well . The 91 would suit the Tiger 60 much better although I would use a OS75 two stroke.....I think you might spoil a real nice plane by putting the 91 in but yes I think reinforceing the firewall would be a good Idea...I am not sure how tough the ARFs are but I know when I build a kit they come out pretty strong...I would not be afraid of putting a 91 in one of my air frames but sometimes ARFs glue joints are not the best...I honestly think you would be better off to leave the 46 in your Tiger and enjoy it . If you want a plane for that 91 either build one or buy another ARF....I would be thinking about a 60 size Cub would be a real nice match ...A Tiger 60 would fit.......

Magnum 4 strokes are heavy. Too bad they didn't give you a Saito 91, weighs the same as the Saito 65 and would work out OK. Why not try to sell the new Magnum and get a used Saito 65 with the money? One of my favorite engines for most .40 sized planes. http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=882021

Good choice Warbird 40 it is really nice to see sombody take advantage of the advice that the guys on here take their time to give....You will love your Tiger 60 when you start flying it...Thats what I am flying rite now . Every time I go to the field I take my Tiger 60...I am thinking about building another over the winter with a few mods...Just a backup Tiger...
