That's a real though question...... I have both planes and I can't really make up my mind.

The MB-339 was my first jet and I really like how it looks in the air. It seems like a heavier airplane but in reality it can perform any maneuver that you want. Just take a look at this video of my plane being flown by an IMAC pilot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK_a2WvOxtM&feature=plcp (look around minute 5:25)

The Viper is also a great flyer and maybe because it's shape, it looks as a more agile plane. I have really enjoyed flying this plane and it lands really easy and at slow speeds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OgX8bGT0jc&feature=plcp

I have seen videos of the MB-339 handling grass runways without a problem and maybe it's front landing gear helps on that aspect. Haven't seen the Viper in grass.

At the end of the day, I guess is you own personal choice. Whatever way you go, you will be getting an excellent plane. But of course you can always do what I did....... stop worrying about which plane was better and get the two of them

Sorry I can't be of more help.

My opinion is pretty much like Gonzalo´s , flew both planes with a Rhino and they where great. Perhaps the 339 has a small advantage on grass due it´s traliling link gear.

Later I flew the 339 with a old P-180.. then it turned out a better plane than the Viper, LOL.

Hi,

MB339 for sure. The latest versions are much lighter than the older model i use to fly. It is a turbine F3A pattern machine. The trailing link LG can handle anything. You need to make sure the blocks for gear is reinforced to handle grass loads. Low on ground and wide LG make ground handling better.... Doors can be a pain - just make sure you service them regularly.

Viper is modern and sleak - but have totally different "feel" to it. More like business jet....

Just my 2c...

Regards

 Jan,

Ja flew two jets, but the MB-339 has a flight quieter than the Viper Jet.
I have an MB-339 equipped with a Rhino and was the perfect combination for this jet.

Some good points here.....

In fact, the MB-339 is much quieter than the Viper with the same turbine which is a good thing if you fly in an area were you have some noise restrictions.

The MB-339 seats very low and doors could be a problem in grass. Metallic door hinges could be a good idea.

The MB-339 fuse is very long so in order to stiffen the plane for some maneuvers, we put some extra carbon strips on the sides (specially on the front).

The MB-339 landing gear will take a lot of abuse without a problem. I think that the Viper gear is not as strong.

Thanks for all the answers..

Both planes is second hand planes I am looking at. I have seen the MB339 severel times takeoff and landing on Grass..No problem..but it is not the latest version I am sure, but still in very good condition. The Viper I am looking at had an accident last year, there was a runway light in the way of takeoff, this plane is modified with digitech trailing legs, so should also be okay on grass I guess..I think the MB339 would be the best choice when taking all the replyes in consideration. We do have an issue with noise restrictions.

Regards

Jan

Jan:

My MB-339 is over 3 years old so I think is one of the older models. It still flies great and you can see in my video that the plane can handle any kind of maneuvers. You will be happy with the plane.

It is amazing that at half throttle, the plane flies very nicely and it hardly makes noise.

Good luck with your purchase.

Hey, I know the left picture, it's my work bench
The digitech trailing links in the Viper is undestructible, if they break, you will have far more serious problems somewhere in the plane

I ended up with the MB339, But it was not a Skymaster as I thought, but a Feibao instead, as far as I know there is no difference. It is about 4 years old, and in very good shape, no critical damages. Now I just have to go the hole plane through, and fine tune it for my own satisfaction. Need to do some scale items like the fins on the wings, lightning, droptanks, rails for smoke canisters (red, green), a nice cockpit..

Jan:

In early production MB-339s, there were some reports stating that the front end of the plane would flex due to the fuse being too long. There was even an old video showing a MB-339 breaking apart in air supposedly due to this issue. I don't know if this was true or not, but just in case I glued some carbon fiber strips in the front part to make it more stiff and avoid flex. You don't add a lot of weight to the plane but at least you will have some peace of mind when doing some hard maneuvers and knowing that you won't have any problems.

I always though the MB339 was a little more axial in flight over the Hawk. It has a good presence in the air also. Its juts big and heavy enough to look nice and stable as well. Heres a clip form the maiden flight i had on mine ... Unfortunately there is another on I am building now . I lost my first one running out of fuel :\ ( I run a p200 on a speed limiter. Adding 4 drop tanks, and performing more vertical climbs than usual reduced my flight time drastically)

here is the last flight ....
