I'm worried about my body painting skills. Very worried. When I get my D8T, I am going to give it the ol' college try on the stock body (to use just for bashing). However, I plan to get the Proline Bull Dog body for racing and want it to look as sharp as possible.

I came across a site that offers custom skins for this body. http://www.rcidcustom.com/upgraderc/product/RCD04-0041.html

I know little about them. Are they hard to apply? I like this vendor as you can fully customize it, so it will have my custom look, but done professionally. I realize I'm probably punking out by getting one, but my goal is for it to look nice.

Does anyone have them, and if so what are your thoughts on them?

Thanks!

I've always wondered about these (and skins for the Tx), so will be watching this post to see what folks say. They aren't cheap though.

They are not cheap.  Applying them ( especially for the faint of heart) isn't a cake walk.    Done wrong, the seams show up.  Many times a matching paint color is recommended to be painted on the inside to minimize the seams from being obvious.  Be sure and have a heat gun available.

Flashy bodies are usually for those that have skills.  Although tough, they are not impervious.  Pepending on surface, going turtle massive times will scratch them.  Nothing wrong with a one or two color rattle can paint job.

BTW, a Bull Dog body requires modification to the front body mounts on the D8T.  You can relocate the HB mounts, but most go another direction.

Airbrushing would likely be a better way to go, and seemingly every track has a regular or knows of someone who does custom airbrushing on RC's. A full body like the one on my Slash here, at Paint Monster custom airbrushing here in Akron runs about $100, but, anything flashy is not advisble if you are prone to spending a lot of time wrecking, as with any body, the investment will not seem as worthy if you are likely to tear it up.Also, as you can see by the pics of the buggy, it is not hard to be effective with rattle can and masking tape, just patient. Give the rattle can a try first, as you stated, and see how it turns out! I've got no qualms showing off my simply flame/window border paint job!

Honestly, IMHO, unless you are a pro, a wrap has a 90% chance of looking worse than just a paint job. I've helped do a couple on full-size cars, what a pain! I think it would be even tougher considering all the crevices and tight curves on an RC.

I would (I did!) start with something simple and rattle can. Personally I really like a simple paint job with nothing more than a stripe or two. However I came across some videos on youtube showing different painting techniques and now I kind of want to try my hand at some more complex flashy paint jobs. I don't resemble anything remotely close to being artistic and I guess thats why I like simple but after watching some videos on youtube it doesn't look all that hard to put something together that could look really cool and custom. I've never tried one of those wraps, but I too have heard they are a pain in the butt to apply and can be expensive. one plus side to them is that I hear they help to stiffen up the body a little.

Yakfish: I feel ya, more advanced techniques will be my next step too. I'd like to do similar flames, but marbled. I hear you can dab it with a sponge (wet or dry, idk YET  ]  while the paint is still wet and then back it with another color to achieve a similar effect. I think things like this will keep painting bodys fun and interesting for quite a while

Thanks for the replies. If it is a PIA like you've suggested then it defeats the purporse of wanting to take the easy way out.

Guess I'll just need to hunker down and learn how to do it. I lke that buggy, BTW. That's pretty much the type of design I'm looking for (but with a blue base).

Thank you. Some detail is not very visible with my low-res camera phone. Around every flame I scored the tape and seperated it just a tiny tiny bit to allow a little bleed-thru, and on close inspection you notice it, I think it kind of gives it a skater-ish feel, something along those lines. i love it!
