Status: offline 		It's gotten alot better since you have to be a member in the club to fly there now.
There is still a few that are a problem occasionally, as with any club.

Status: offline 		I took the 38 out for its first flight today.
I wanted to get some good hot runs on it to loosen it up some.
I have this engine installed on a 30cc Yak 54, and it doesn't have very good verticle at all! It is much better suited for slower flying type planes.
On a good note, it really isn't all that loud once on the plane and in the air, I ran with the silicone ex. diverter. It stayed on for about a flight then melted off.
With just the header alone the noise wasn't bad.
The engine didn't seem to rev very well, kind of weak top end power, running a 19-8 xoar, it should run faster than it was...did stay running though, never quit.
I don't mean to diss this motor, but, it will be a better fit on something that doesn't require as much power, maybe a sig rascal 110.
It's still a keeper though.

Status: offline 		I don't think it will handle more pitch very well. During takeoff, the plane is slow and lazy and climbs out rather weak, you can't go too steep or it may stall.
Myself, I like the planes to accelerate quickly, but not have that much top speed. Over powered is good, that's why there's a throttle.
Right now I'm not sure why it won't rev freely, a 19-8 wood prop on this size should be no problem, I would think it should be close to redline.

Status: offline 		It is -5 F here today so its going to be awhile for my first test flight also. But the way you describe the motor, it should be perfect for my WWI birds. We shall see. I was thinking that the silicone would melt. Good to know.

Status: offline 		I bet it will be perfect for your WW1 type planes, and I wouldn't worry about the silicone extension, it wasn't that loud with the header alone!
I think a 19-8 is not too much prop for this engine or the plane I have it on,(Yak-54), 30cc size. The plane flew well with a DLE-30 and an E-flite 160 on 10 cells.
I'm going to fly it a little more and see how it goes. The temps outside during the flying were about 34-35F with fog, so I don't think the engine was getting hot at all, maybe too cool if anything.

Status: offline 		SJN: Tie the muffler to the airframe with some safety wire so you don't lose it if / when the solder joint lets go.

Its soldered with the same stuff that KS solder their manifolds and flanges with, and they seem to hold up well.

Actually HIGH TEMP soldering is term used in the states when oxy/acetylene torches & silver bearing brazing rods are uses. The application is used in A/C copper sgtstems & the joints rae sweated just like when doing potable water copper /low temp silver solder.

Is it brazing? Yes, but it's still called silver soldering.

Status: offline 		It's been called silver brazing for as long as I can remember. I used it extensively on bronze and stainless steel in marine applications. 90,000 psi tensile strength if properly done.

No, sorry, my friend who made it, is not into mass production :-)


I just fired it up for 20 seconds with the saito muffler, and it sounds very nice.
Very pleased with it, lets see how it performs with the silencer on........still snow outside, and freezing winds arond here

On a side note, I noticed the price came down on these engines at AMR in Canada, now $369 US.
I wonder if we could make the flange double thickness that this one is and just thread it for the saito tube and muffler?

Status: offline 		Yep, I saw the price drop also. What are the chances of getting the $30 back? Not too good I'll bet. I have sent 3 e-mails to AMR about ordering more items and so far they are not answering. The first E-mail was sent over 2 weeks ago. Hope this is not something of a continuing problem.

Added note. I have been offered a $30 rebate on the price change. I stand corrected!

Im building a ESM B25 and was thinking of putting a DLE20 or DLE30 in it, but I really want the 4 stroke sound with out the $700 each satio motors.

I know the performace is a little less than a DLE30 with is ok with my set up. How is the sound how is it working out for you?

Status: offline 		NOWHERE near the Saito sound. It is just loud. It might be closer to the Saito if you ran the Saito with just a straight pipe, I don't know because my Saitos are nitro four strokes and not gas. But I also dont think it is any louder that my Fuji 50 was with that thing they called a muffler. It will be a lot better test for me to get it out to the field. Then I will see if its still too loud. But the Saitos sound a lot sweeter. IMO
