Global did a great job of engineering the kit to make it easy to build. As someone who didn't have much experience building RC planes with this much style, the kit was an education for me.

Status: offline 		Yep, I built one of these sometime ago and put a Cox K&B 15 on it!! Man that thing was a bullet!! A great flying model. I think I still have the plans somewhere!! May build another one of these days!!

Status: offline 		Some 25 or maybe even 30 years ago I built and flew a few of them, but I think it was a Bridi kit or something like that, not sure anymore. All I know for sure is that I really enjoyed flying them back then.

Status: offline 		There's one little detail on several designs like this that I've never been able to do.....the elevator joiner with just a section of dowel. At the very least, cross drill the dowel and the balsa behind the dowel for either a short hunk of wire or a round toothpick. Doing so must add 5 times the amount of strength. Another option is to bend a 1/8" aluminum welding rod into a U shape and inlay it into the elevator halves. The elevator halves on this design are too stubby [not enough chord] for the U shape joiner, but doweling the wood dowel joiner is cheap insurance.

Our county courthouse had a copier that was used to duplicate subdivision plats; I used it to make plan duplicates. With today's digital scanners, you can generate a number of different file types. You might also check with architectual design houses - they need a means to reproduce plats and building plans and would likely be willing to digitize plans for you.

Yep, anything you can do to add torsional strength in that spot. Figure that the elevator push rod can only directly drive the elevator half that it is connected to and then you place all your faith in a short hunk of 1/8" dowel to take care of the other half with no other support..?
Even if it doesn't fail, there is a good chance that both elevator halves wont deflect evenly when the plane is thrashing around at flying speed.

Status: offline 		I must be the odd man out, I've been using the dowels for 30 years and have yet to have one snap. Sometimes I will fit a slightly larger one and sand the top and bottom to fit. I find with a good seal on the elevator not a lot of deflection is usually needed anyway. But I don't fly at "CP" speed.

Hey, that's funny, I built one back in 1989 and it was covered in the same metallic green MonoKote!

My only complaint with that plane was the airfoil. I didn't care for the partial flat bottomed airfoil that they called "semi-symmetrical" or all the washout. It made for very poor inverted performance. I've always wanted to build another with a full symmetrical airfoil. It would be a great little airplane!
