Status: offline 		Being the relatively inexperienced modeler that I am I'm wondering if you gents ever thought about transporting your planes on top of a vehicle to the airfield...

My flightline is 20 minutes of freeway away and I wonder if my max speed is 75MPH if that's too much for the fuse to reside on top of the car... I'd build a PVC mount of sufficient strength of course and some sort of tie-down solution but wondered what would happen to the fuse... especially the feathers.

btw.. its a BH FW 190 ARF...70 inch wingspan... (wing would stay in the car of course...

Why? I've got three planes now and I hate having to choose to leave one at home...

Status: online 		The problem is not the airspeed, but rather the unnatural angle that it will press on the plane from. A plane in flight rights itself so that the wind loading is in the right places, but you'll be forcing the plane to take on wind at an angle that it wasn't designed for. And that's not to mention the turbulence you're going to get from air coming off your windshield. You might consider if a PVC rack could carry all of your planes in the car.

Status: offline 		I transported planes on top of my Explorer many times longer distances with no issues. Zirolli Stuka, Meister Me 109, and my buddy Bud Nosen P51 and Mister Mulligan. Once secured on top properly there will be no issues. People do it all the time. BTW I did trips as long as 100 miles.

Make your own cradle, works great. Allows at least 3 planes in the car.

The black holders are standard water pipe brackets and the grey foam is pipe insulation:

The hinges makes it foldable for easer storage when not used:

On the wing holders I used the same pipe insulation and regular rods (15 mm/diameter):

If I want to bring a tail dragger I don't use the bottom part:

Yeah starting to subscibe to that theory as well hence the van. Now I think I'll add a couple of Emil's cradles
