Mid wing = either way
Low wing = you guessed it, upside down

Status: offline 		Why you asked because you want the weight down....it makes it easier... take a high wing...right side up all the weight is below the balance point upside down and now the weight is above the balance point and it will be impossible

Status: offline 		BaracudaHockeys list is right on and the reason is that to be able to find that balance point there must be sufficient weight below the
point of contact (balance pins) that the model can be stabile otherwise you can just keep readjusting and never find the real point.

Some airplanes ya just gotta experiment to find that stabile point. Look at it this way picture what would happen if you tried to balance a high wing airplane upside down, you would just not be able to find the balance point.

I just hold the plane as it is. Two fingers under the wing and top of plane pointing up.
Come on guys this isn't Rocket Science!

No, you're right, it's physics 101. Holding a low wing plane right side up is not, by a long shot, the best method.

I think this article is a very simple way to explain it but really does not give a proper answer as to why it is easier to balance it upside down.

Place a low wing plane on a balance stand/finger tips right side up and say it is nose heavy. As the nose starts to dip down because of the nose heavy condition the large mass of the planes fuselage above the balancing point begins to move forward making it even more nose heavy. As the plane tilts forward even more the nose heavy condition gets worse and worse until the plane hit a stop or falls of the stand.

If the same plane is place upside down on the balance stand it reacts differently. As the nose drops forward the mass of the fuselage then moves backward like a pendulum. This offsets the nose heavy condition and if within certain limits will equal itself out and not fall of the stand.
