Try wheelbarrow inner tubes.

I've seen inner tubes work on light weight planes but I don't think they would hold up the weight of a 140" CUB. How about the whole wheelbarrow tire or something similar like a small trailer tire and buff off most of the tread? I have seen lightweight wheels also that could be made to work. Small alloy racing wheels such as used on karts? Just a random selection of thoughts here.

I think those would be rather hard, non cushion.
Anything in the RC cars section maybe?

google beach stroller tires or beach cart tires. You might find something there. They are large low pressure tubes so you can roll babies and stuff across sand.

edit: I found these:

http://www.wheeleez.com/beach-wheels-polyurethane.php

they are grey, but some vinyl dye for car interiors should take care of that.

Yah I just picked up a pear of the robart 6"baloonies from my local HS and they are bigger than I thought, they'll be just about what I'm looking for my 1/4 scale cub and I'm thinking of taking the tail wheel off and replaceing it with a skid. the tail wont bounce around as much.snow ski style 3/4" wide.just a thought.

I have used a set of the 60% Cub tires on a 40% Hempel Cub. They looked great. Only problem is they tend to split on the seam. I think a little RTV will fix them but for the price they should not do that. I have had 3 sets split. The ones on the 40% and 2 sets on 2 different 60%s. I also have a set of the Wheelez. They are nice and light for their size. Problem is making a bushing to use them plus the hub is about 5" wide making it a huge arm on the axle for heavier aircraft. The Airtops are nice but have to be imported and are a little costly. If money is not an issue get the Airtops, if you want to save some money the Dubros are very nice and available domestically.

Low Speed Pneumatic Tire & Wheel — 10in. x 3.00 x 4

These have a nylon hub but require bushings to fit to a 1/4" axle.

Maybe a couple of these $4.00 tubes, I'm sure you could dream up a hub of some sort and have something very unique and cheap.

Yeah i think the tube idea will look the best. The soft rubber look looks like the real thing.

Do a search for the Mud Duck drawings. The large size uses wheelbarrow inner tubes with plywood disks on both sides glued to a wooden dowel for wheels.

Hey thats it! there's an idea. FYI the tube I pictured was for my pneumatic dolly wheel, the tube is a cheng shin 4" 4.10/3.50 as  pictured it measures 9" diameter with just enough air to make it rigid, more air more diameter but I'm sure there's a point where it begins to bulge and loose it's shape. Wish I had a plane big enough to use it on lol i like designing stuff life that.
