Does anybody have the video for the Bob Parkinson Jet kits to aid in building? I acquired a kit, and want to build it, but I hear there was a video to aid in building and setting up the harder parts. I really would like to build and fly this, so any pointers from previous builders is welcome!!

Thanks

I just went into nostalgia shock , but when I recovered , I went to the video cache , alas , it the build video was gone . I did build and enjoy the Barracuda.it was my first jet. O.S. 91 , Dynamax fan , BVM pipe and clamp , spring air retracts . I do have VHS of it flying . It was light and clean and quick. The best part about it is that it was balsa and foam , easy to fix . I remember the fuse was 3/16 slab sides and big chunky balsa triangle stock in the corners to allow you to round it out. . The wings were very straightforward foam core . No issues ,but in retrospect , I would have made them removeable.
What I remember about the fuse is that I increased the size of the triangle stock at the corners so I could really round it out . That worked out well. The nose section was a bit too narrow , again , if I did it again , I'd make it a bit wider simply to accomodate radio and retract gear . Pay attention to to the inlets , keeping them nice and clean and nicely fitted to the face of the fan . They make a huge difference . Find an easy to access place for your on board needle and the servo that moves it .
When it sets on the gear, be sure that it has a few degrees of positive incidence , this is a must for a reasonable take off roll . I'll dig a little deeper to see if I have any pics I can scan.
Good luck , keep posting

Thx Jetmaven. This kit actually has built up wings, lighter. Also the nose is preformed plastic. Seems like through time, most of the kit was prefabbed. Thanks for the info, and I will keep posting as I go.

Thanks

The guy I got the kit from also gave me all the goodies. He had built one, but made it a lawn dart on the maiden flight. He guessed not enough air speed on take off. So he bought another kit, but never did anything with it. So he gave me the kit, OS91VR-DF ABN, Dynamax tractor fan, tuned pipe, retracts, and the starter probe. On his crash, all the damage was the wings, and the retract wires bent. He also gave me the replacement wires he bought. He just couln't find the set-up video. I think all I need to get is the inflight mixture remote.

It appears that you got a bvm pipe and clamp, that's real good. BVM also made the best in flight mix ever known to man.I don't know if he still has any but well worth the question. I'm not sure where to date the kit and i never saw one with built up wings which are great , nice and light, but just to be insure against tip stalls, you may want to put about 1/4 " wash out in the wings. That really adds to stability in turning and at low speeds .

Still have a bunch of ducted fan parts.

I assume that you'll use the pressure tap on the pipe .Do you know about the carbon tow bands to keep the saddle tanks from bulging out ? If they bulge under pressure , the effect of the pressure will be somewhat lost and the engine will not run as it should . It can be a problem.

Never heard of the bands. Makes sense though. Can I make these or need to buy them? Also gotta look for the silicone tube to attatch the tuned pipe.

Thanks for the info.

No silicone tubing .that pipe and fitting use hi temp silicon rings that the pipe fits over . The rings go on the fitting .once pushed on , the pipe clamp holds it in place. This is important , it should not fail.
On the tanks, you need just a few things,
1, clean tanks completely, scuff lightly with fine sandpaper , solvent clean ,acetone or lacquer thinner are good.
2, you need some carbon fiber tow (cord)( bvm item)
3, a new bottle of thin c.a. and kicker
4, a simple crayola crayon

Once you get this , I'll be glad to talk you thru it . The crayon may seem strange but it's used to position the carbon cord on the concave side of the tank so you don't stick yourself to it.
My suggestions ,call BVM , ask for Patty, explain to her what it is you're doing regarding a d/f unit. She knows more than most people on the planet about this stuff. I used to get the tuned pipe rings , in flight mix , you name it , from bvm
I don't know what they have in stock on some of this d/f related stuff, the world has moved on thru turbines and e.d.f.'s but there is a community of fuel ducted fan enthusiasts either here or the other big r/c forum .
O.S. 91's , if I recall correctly , used a rather low nitro, high oil content fuel , the correct plug is also very important . I'll dig that info up as well.
I actually found pics of my Barracuda, I'll scan and post them

Jetmaven ............. nice plane. Do you still have it? I know planes have a shelf life and all...........

And yes, I do need a BVM tuned pipe hangar, don't seem to find one in the boxes of parts. Also, seems my instructions keep referring to see a figure# that is not there, so wondering if they are complete. Framed the wings over the holiday weekend, still gotta put in the retracts and aileron servos, but they did turn out nicer than I thought.

Was making the fuse sides, and instuctions said to cut out scoops in nose fuse sides as per fig2-4, but no figure 2-4 in the instuctions or on the plans. I will take pictures of the plastic parts I have, and maybe you can identify them? Also, the nose is preformed plastic, what type of glue do you suggest on this plastic (seems like ABS)

The 'Cuda is long gone , a long story . The hangar is free to you , just need to know where to send it . Merry Christmas . I'd be happy it see if I can I.D. the plastic parts .
If I recall correctly , and I'm sure there are other opinions ,1, slightly scuff the inside surfaces of the plastic parts then mate them together carefully , no gaps .Use as much masking tape as it takes . Run a tiny bead of thin c.a. to bind them together . Leave the tape in place . 2. I use 1" wide f/g cloth bound edge tape . My preference for adhesive is finishing resin but 30 min epoxy is o.k. Coat the f/g tape with epoxy and lay it into the inside of the seam . Use whatever it takes to reach inside to get it in contact with the plastic. I use disposable brushes on a stick as needed . ( well I actually clean them in lacquer thinner and reuse them) . This makes for a really ridged seam that won't readily split open 3 , let it set overnight , remove tape , fill and sand , prime and paint and there 'ya go

Jetmaven,

Here are the pics of the plastic parts:

the one on the left: no idea (Hatch?) one on the right are the intakes I believe

nose intakes? engine cover?

left & right nose pieces

no idea on the strips, 3 same width, 1 is skinnier thrust tube with instructions

no idea what this is for

Can you identify or even correct my guesses?

Thanks. I will e-mail you my address

Thanks again,
Covert
