Status: offline 		Between these two engines which is best for speed the DA 60 or the Evo 58? warbird type plane like say a mustang around 18 lbs or so.

Status: offline 		How about the G62 old horse,now with electronic ignition called the Platinum series? Just got one in and looks great.
Engine alone weighs only 3 lbs 14 oz.
It's cheaper, indestructable, and super reliable.
DA 60 is more torque engine for 3D flying IMO.
I've flown warbirds with both DA 50 and G62, and there's no comparison.

Status: offline 		Evolution 58,if that is the engine you are talking about.hands down the best speed engine you can get when run on a pipe,it will spank that DA60.
i had one on a ES pipe it would spin a Xoar 24-8 at 7500+,just gobs of instant HP and throttle response.
if you have the need for speed this one is it.
you might be better off looking into a MVVS58,same engine but put together with a little more care.

Status: offline 		Thats a lot of pich, and I can tell you that on most bigger birds thrust is just as important as pich speed.

But if you turn a smaller prop faster / higher rpm you will get your thrust back.

20x18 should be fine.
I tried a 22x14 on a 58cc for racing in my Top Flite P47 and did quite well as a racing setup. In our class, we are not allowed any mufflers "outside the cowling" which rules out pipes or canisters. My solution was the side dump MVVS muffler
If you can fit the INT58 canister (MVVS canister), you will gain a couple of hundred RPM on top of what any side dump or Pitts muffler will give you
Prop the engine for some 6400 - 6500RPM static. This will unload to around 7800 - 8000 in flight and give you some very good speed.

Status: offline 		I slapped a DA85 in my TF P47 and did not see impressive speed out of that Jug. Too much drag on that bulky airframe.
My TF P51 with DA 50 and Keleo scale exhaust swinging the T6 racing prop (APC 20x12 special order from Tower) put a smile on my face for years now.
If doing it over, I would put the Zenoah ZP 62 with same P51 airframe and T6 racing prop for speed warbird set up.
