The relationship began well enough 3-4 years ago I bought her, put in a Futaba 401 gyro, combined that with a jr 3500g tail servo and she flew great. Then the tail wag started. Nothing fixed it. New gyro, nope, I didn't buy another jr servo, but tried a cheaper one, still did the same thing. So I replaced the entire tail assembly. Still waggin! I didn't replace the belt, but I can't see how that would cause the tail to wag. I thought, well, this is a great excuse to go flybarless. I didn't go terribly expensive, I bought the tarot xyz fbl. Well, you guessed it after getting it together the tail still wags. I'm going back to my Blade mcpx!

How long of a time frame are you talking, a day, a week, a month and did anything happen between it flying good and it not? There must be a reason it was good then suddenly it wasn't (bang the tail when getting out of the car).

Are the push rods and tail smooth like butter, are you at the proper 90deg on the servo, is your ball link the correct distance out from your servo center, is your tail belt tight, perhaps you're getting static from the belt drive. What head speed are you running, have you played around with the gain in the Tx or delay on the gyro (401), do you have the correct pad under the gyro, are your blades balanced, do you have the proper tail servo frequency on the fbl controller, is the tail setup mechanically so it will hover straight in normal mode and head hold....

I'm sure these all sound like stupid things you've already checked but I'm just throwing stuff at the wall hoping something will stick and help you think of something you haven't thought of. Hopefully some one else will have some other suggestions also.

What happens when you tweak the gain on the gyro?  Make a difference?

I know its very unlikely, but maybe there is an issue with your radio now?  What type of radio is it?  Are you using a gryo sense type of connection, or just trim on a channel to control the gain?

Either way...Id try adjusting gain to see if it makes it worse/better/fixes it.

I hate your T-Rex too... and I can hate it a lot better right here on my workbench along with my *mumbledozenorsomumble* other helicopters. I'll be glad to absolve you of all your guilt in this love-hate relationship; as long as no money changes hands to taint the exorcism.

I'm gonna ask something that may annoy the crap out of you, but did you buy an el-cheapo gyro or servo to test with? The late-production HK-401 clone gyros are notorious for unrepentant and unfixable tail-wag. The XYZ FBL has a pretty loyal following though, and I haven't heard of this being an issue. hmmm...

I'd say a tail slider binding up as my first suggestion, but you say you replaced the entire tail...

Did you take the autorotate gear off and unwind the belt and check the cog and bearings in the front drive and check the the one-way bearing?

Also, a worn belt or warped main gear or wobbly one-way bearing can cause vibration which can lead to tail-wag; how smooth is your heli overall?

And last... have you checked EVERY bearing in the tail for crunchy/notchy feeling? Even the belt idler pulley? I know you said it was all new, but I've gotten new parts with crunchy bearings too; particularly tail parts.

Any of these can cause the belt to "lurch", which can directly or indirectly cause a tail-wag.

Also, did you recently change motor/gearing or a pitch curve which would reduce headspeed and therefore also tail responsiveness?

Like Goggles, throwing anything to see what sticks.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Genius CP. I'd love to fly the thing; it hates me viscerally.

Also since it was just brought up, kinda sorta.  Did you check the bearings on the tail drive pinion?  Or, the pinion/pinion drive gear itself  If not...check there too.

Like everyone has said thus far...its probably more than likely mechanical, if you have checked everything mechanical...then nothing is left but the electrical...I know, Im a genius!  LOL
