Ah, yes the JL f-18c in blue angels.

One of my favorite airplanes of all time. Built like a tank.

If you use more flap on take off, the roll will be better and will lift off nicely.

Thanks! I am still getting used to it and trimming it. I only have 14 flights on it. It has been an interesting, challenging project. It truly needs the 36# thrust engine. I tried to load the video of it, but couldn't get it to load right, and my dogs kept coming on here.

There is absolutely no way I would have time to build the yellow from a kit. I'm a Paramedic and it takes everything I have just to build an ARF these days. I'm getting the distinct impression that the Yellow might be the best option...

Like i said in an earlier post. Yellow aircraft does do there's in an ARF version you just need to contact either Shaun AKA( yellow Aircraft) on here. Or you can call Charels at Yellow Aircraft to order it.

Greg,

We've discontinued ARF production for the time being. Unfortunately, there are no F-18 ARF's available anymore (unless you commission a builder).

Nice pictures and videos...

One of the most thing I like with the Yellow Aircraft are the details specially the flaps. The design of the flaps doesn't only provides beauty but the extra lift and drag during takeoff and landing. I don't have experience so far with YA and other except mine so I can't give any comparison but I like mine and very much happy on how she flies...

Mine is a 1/8 scale Skymaster - Xtreme Jet F-18C Hornet.

Here's the photos:

What version was he flying the standard version or the one with vectoring thrust nossels?
Also was it a si gle or a twin setup.

What did you guys determine the proper cg to be after the first flight?

I found it very nose heavy on the first flight... Full stab area and CG location are what makes this jet stable. For my hornet found this CG located at the leading edge of MAC or 5.5" to 5.75" from root LE...

Disco it was the big one. It was very impressive on the ground. It had twin 180s in it if I remember right. Fly eagle was their so they might have changed the location now. I would make sure before your first flight. Way to much money to invest in something with a simple problem like the wrong CG. Video on youtube of it flying somewhere. Might wanna check the jetsoverkentucky thread for it. Hope this helps

Dan they are talking about the yellow F18 not the JL one. I hope to do a yellow someday. Its the only F18 can you enter into a scale contest with static with. The others you will get your a$$ handed to you and feel like you dont even have an F18 when they get done judging it. The chinese ARFs are only good for funscale where you dont get static judged.

No, the OP is asking for an ARF, not scale static! Yes, the others might be talking about the Yellow being more static, but the OP wants an ARF, and Yellow isn't available. Global I beleive is available. I built mine from a kit approved by Tiano from Global to go into TG. Mine is NOT an ARF either, but Mike will build the kits to any part of completion that you desire.

Pete I wouldn't give up on the yellow F-18 just because you can't get it in an ARF. Buy the kit and start in on it.... if you start to feel it's becoming to much find a local builder to get it up to ARF condition and finish it from there. Any good builder at your local field can build this thing and many older builders build for a few extra bucks to fund there hobby. I find that to be the cheapest way, pro builders are expensive from the one's I've looked into in the past.

I bought the yellow kit knowing it would be a long term project and I'd work on it when I felt like it...if it took me a year or five years I didn't care. I've always wanted to build it. I think you would be shocked at how much you can get done in a weekend if you tried. I really haven't put that much time in mine and it's on wheels ready and getting glassed. After that it's paint and I have an ARF at that point....

If you put the word out on the thread I bet you can find a great deal on a NIB kit and gear.... but the newest version requires no mods. My older version for glow power needed mods , but not that big a deal if you read a few build threads.

Go for it!!!

Dan,

I think the confusion is in the posts. The guy I was responding to was saying the Y/A ARF is still available. I mentioned that it was no longer true, and your post quoted mine. When I read you post, I thought GJC was offering the Yellow F-18 ARF, but when I looked, it was the Jet Legend. That's what Gunnrad was responding to.

I C.......sorry I confused everyone. I have had Yellow aircraft product(not F-18), so know it is a great product too. The OP just said he is a paramedic and didn't have time to build, and would prefer an ARF. You said Yellow's ARF isn't available and kind of indicated that there were NO other F-18 ARF's out there. I then suggested GJC's ARF's. I never said what GJC build their kits from on here, other then mine was from Mike at GJC, and was originally a JL kit created to my specifications . This is the way I understood the conversation.

NP. This is also why I haven't commented on how either one flies, other then mine needs the #36# thrust engine. I haven't had any other F-18's to compare this to, other then other scale and sport jets. So, learning and listening too.

Gunnrad,

Shaun,

Because of issues with the fin integrity of the F-18C which required the addition of the three external L brackets on the inside base of the fin, the Super Hornet was designed with the fin having a wider base for greater support. Though not exactly replicated, the bumps you see are relatively scale. Take a look at the photos and you'll see something similar.

David S

After sight: My bad! You're probably talking about the vertical bump on the left fin, I didn't notice.
