Well after a black hole with this I back to the work and are finishing it. M4A1E8 in IDF service, I think this was used before the M50.

I'm not sure if the spare links should be placed on the turret or remain in the sides as were received from French. I saw pictures of the T23 with the spare links on.

Mario, I hope you find some info. That period in IDF was extremely confusing, as you no doubt have found. From what I have read, between 1956 and 60 most Shermans were being fitted with the Cummins diesel and identified as Mark 2, then the 75-50 gun but unclear of what the situation was on the HVSS, as most were being retrofitted with HVSS and whether that was part of the M-50 program. Both engine and suspension conversions were not done at the same time. As M-4A3E8s came in, most from France, were fitted with the CN-75-50 gun and classified M-50s, later M-51s. Although Gannon writes that both VVSS and HVSS M-1 Super Shermans operated together, I have yet to find any photos of an M-1 with HVSS that still had the 76mm gun. Some M-1/M-50s with VVSS had track blocks on the forward portion of the turret, most on the bow plate, but anything with HVSS on the hull.

Of course right now, is not a good time to write and look for historic tank data. My getting back to Israel under Sar El also looks bad at present. If was an IL citizen, I'd have orders already. Hope something is worked out and another "cleanup excursion" into Gaza is not needed. Shalom

Hi Bill
I have several pictures showing the M4A1 76mm with HVSS ( M4A1E8). The problem is that I wanted to place the spare tracks on the sides of the turret and only found a 1/35 resin turret that used it but not real tanks on the battlefield.

Yes the same problem with research now.
Take care Bill

Well the "thing" is already painted and washed, next step will be the pigments.
I used preshading and panel lightning, and several oils.

Please note that no drybrush was used and will not be.

Wow, a split hatch on a A1E8. Pretty unusual but the IDF did some unusual things.

I think the IDF would have used the spare tracks on the turret as supplemental armor. Initially I think the reason they are NOT stored there is because of the weight, unlike the VVSS units were.

This is a beautiful tank you have here. Makes me want to get mine out and charge-up the batteries!

Hi Jeff, it's so odd that honestly I don't think ever existed the split hatch for the last version of the T23. Just Nick sent in that way for the easy eight and I couldn't resist the temptation to let goes as is.

The tanks IDF received from France before the M50 were used in that way before and during the six days war. I have not reference of T23 turret using spare tracks on fighter tanks but in few bulldozers were built with Cummins engine and T23 turret intead the modified with 105.

In fact I have few copies of the Tamiya M51 spare tracks and would have liked to place them but didn’t find any picture of them, other that the bulldozer version.

I’m not a rivet counter at all, just enjoy building but I think I must to have a limit for my artistic licenses…. LOL LOL.
Happy Christmas!
