I suspect that an ultra sonic heated cleaning machine would work well for cleaning our engines. Is anyone familiar with a good one at a reasonable price that could be used for such a thing? Maybe even used with the old green ethylene glycol? Seems like a good idea.

I just use the crockpot, then do final cleaning in the sonic bath using dawn dish soap.

I think I saw one at Harbour Freight for about $30, it wasn't heated I don't think.  I did a motor with the crockpot and it came out great.  I still had to use laquer thinner to get the varnish off the insides.  A cheap redneck ultrasonic heater can be made with a metal container on a buzz sander.  Check 'redneck ultrasonic cleaner' on Google or whater preferance you use.

I took the small one my wife had, {used to have} for cleaning her jewelry and made up a witches brew to clean parts with, not heated but it works pretty good. Too small to drop a complete engine in but I don't use it to completely clean and engine like when using the crock pot. I have spotted people selling used engines that were cleaned in the pot and they really look good on the outside and worn out on the inside. That's how good the crock pot works. Buyer be ware!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the crockpot works wonders but I still have to use a brass brush after it comes out of the pot to really get them clean. I was hoping that an ultra sonic cleaner would eliminate that step. After the brushing, I blow them out with air and then oil them with Marvel Mystery Oil. They really do come out pretty much like new doing that, but I am lazy. I'd just like to take them out of the crockpot, dunk them in the ultrasonic cleaner for awhile, blow them out/off, oil them and then use them.

I love the ideal of the redneck ultra sonic cleaner. Very fitting in this neck of the woods.

I am not near Ottawa.  Closer to Windsor.  The Harbour Freight I go to is just south of Detroit. About an hour drive depending on the Gestapo at the border.  Usually it is worse coming back home.  I think Princess Auto should carry them?  Someone should tell them.

Look around at places like Macy's, Ward's In the jewelery department, this time of year they stock a bunch of stuff like the cleaners and I know they have bigger ones then this one I stole from my wife. Two years now and she hasn't noticed it is gone. Look at Target ans Kmart too.

I had an ultra sonic cleaner about 20 years ago. It died. It was a small cheap one, but it it did an amazing job. I've been looking for a replacement ever since, but cringed at the price of a good one with a large enough tank to handle glow engines. I looked at Harbour Freight last week, and they had two. A small one (1/2 pint I think) for $40.00, and a biger one for $75.00. I plan to check Northern Tool. Someone posted that HobbyKing had one, but I couldn't find it on their web site. Best suggestion is E-Bay, but beware: if they are cheap they probably won't last long. Good ones with 1 quart tanks run several hundred dollars. If anyone knows of a source for a good ultra sonic cleaner, cheap, don't keep it a secret! Greg

My ultrasonic cleaner is an old Craftsman vibration scroll saw. I remove the blade, attache a can with cleaning material in to the upper arm of the saw. Works great and the price is right. Got the old saw at a garage sale for a buck.

I used to work at a power sports dealers as a mechanic. When we cleaned carbs we used to do it by had with tiny wires and such to get all the crud out. After the purchase of an ultra sonic cleaned. you dropped the carbs in a walked away. They came out spotless. I tried a couple of engines and the same result. No scrubbing necessary. It did have a heated tank and we only ran it about 120 F for about 30 minutes.
