Have you used any compressed air on the internal fuel lines to help clear any crud? as you said in your first post this turbine has not been used for a while.

Check your pulses at trim low they should be in between 800-1000. trim up, full throttle 1900-2200, if not re-calibrate the tranismitter.

Not yet on the comppressed air, I don't have a compressor but I have a friend that does, I will be doing that most likely on Saturday, I like to do that after I do a night run to see the burning pattern before and after.

To all:

Happy thanks giving to those who celebrate and indeed is a happy day as we may have found the problem part.

I received a massage from Mr: Gaspar last night ( I have been in contact with him reg. the engine ) and after watching the last vid. he suggested that it was a fuel side problem and to concentrate on the electronic fuel valve and the pump and to bypass it on the next run.

A few minutes ago I did another run this time bypassing the fuel valve, the engine started about the same and got to the running mode just fine like before, on the run I waited for twice the time as when it was quiting, it keep running, this time with a stady idel, I reved it up to full RPMs twice and it came down to idel and stayed there steady.

Looks like we found the solution to this delema, I will have to do a few more runs, this time at the field to make sure that was the cause but it looks like it was the fuel selenoid failing.

After paying carefull attention to the last video one could see that the pump was working as programed at the FEDEC and the lack of white smoke when it stopped running made me think the pump was not at fault because the engine was starving from fuel at that point hence the lack of residual fuel ( white smoke ).

More later, I have to run to work

I like to thank all the participants in this thread and Mr: Gaspar for all the help ( hold your horses we are not done yet )

Good job, Gaspar comes through as he always does on his bits, I must admit I am always impressed with the way he comes through for his customers.

Good man, something to keep in mind ... hard to contemplate that a simple solinoid on off device can partially fail eh ... normally they just either work or not ...

Good job

Scott.

I'm still interested on clealring the fuel sprayers, a night run should give us a clue as to the health of the nozels.

Here is the vid for today's run, I see some flactuations on the RPMs as it is running, more testing to come.

I keep metioning the fuel valve and show you the manual one only not the electric one, you get the idea

Ok

Like I said, we are not done yet

The problem persisted even without the selenoid been bypassed, I took the airplane to the flying field and ran it there two times, it did not improved, ok I said that's the way you wanted you got it body .

I took the engine and set it up on a engine runing stand that I build this afternoon ( my other one is gone ) to say the least on the stand it ran perfectly so, something ( I think ) is making the engine quit while it is in the airplane, maybe is wire related, anyhow, now I have somehing to work with.

Here are two videos, both were done a few minutes ago so both are night rans, very short ( it gets hot back there ) the second is showing the ran using the fuel selenoid and it did just fine.

Also starting is not an isue any more, is fine all the way up to running. check the burning patter ( nice hey!!! )

Hello,

I think the filter must be installed in the other direction. If the filter on the picture is installed on the pressure side of the pump (what is right) you have to turn it 180 degrees. The thick site must be installed near the pump.

Best regards,
Karsten

The direction of the filter doesn't matter. Yes... it should be positioned so the outside surface of the filter sees the incoming fuel... but it's not critical. BUT... never turn it around after it's been put into use. You could send junk into the engine.

OK... I really didn't see/hear anything wrong with the vid from post #63. Most engines won't idle perfectly. They hunt. That's partly from the "Stability Delay" setting. I find when it's down around 50... they hunt. If it's up around 100... they hang. I think I have my little Wren 44 around 70. At that point... it will find it's RPM easy, without overshooting.

With that said... While watching the vids... I thought to myself... "The pump PW, and temp seems high for an idle." (Vid on post #63) Then... in the second vid in post #64 showed a normal PW and temp. The PW went from 133 to 71. AND... the temps went from 520 to 460. Because of this... I think you may have an air leak in the engine case. Was it significantly cooler when you ran the engine at night?

Gaspar has a computer program that can be used instead of your Data Terminal. This program can download the last 51 minutes of run time into notepad or Excel. It will give you Temp, RPM, Throttle and pump readings..Maybe this can help you in trouble shooting. I use it on my Fadec ECUs

You can download it from the JetsMunt web site, this is what I was referring to about ten posts back.

The run on post # 64 was done with a diferent pump ( not new ) as you mentioned the PW is down to # 71 and temp is 460, big improvement.

I finally was able to run the engine successfully in the aircraft, everything is running the way it supposed to.

After all the testing and checking I came to the conclusion that ( with the help of everyone that got involved in the tread )

The fuel and gas solenoids needed to be moved to the front next to the FADEC to eliminate any glitches from extensions.

The UAT needed to be serviced.

Fuel pump needed to be change.

Took the opportunity to move the manual fuel valve to the front

I also checked the fuel can for contaminants ( both UAT and can are clean )

Thank you all for all the help and suggestions, RCU is one of the best resources we have.

Time to go flying

PS: Now I can go back building the Turbinator

I never thought about picking up interference from the solenoid wires.

Good call.

It looks that way, the pump was not working as it should, after changing it and still having almost the same situation I suspected the extensions.
