hey all was driving my traxxas summit, i have 2 voltage displays on it so i can keep an eye on the voltage.
i was driving it today and suddenly the lights turned off and lost power. running 2 2s lipos 1 side went down to 7.0 volts but the other side was 5.2 volts it dropped so fast before i even got to check it. on the way home i checked it again and it was slowly going up, eventually going back up to 6.4. why did it do that ? is the battery still okay or what ? its charging now but dont know if it will be any goood or not. any advice would be appreciated as im a complete beginner

It should be fine. Balance charge at a sympathetic rate (0.8C). When the motor is drawing current the voltage can sag. This can slowly recover. It might be a sign that that lipo is on the way out or is not up to the job.

What capacity (mah) is the lipo, what C rating is it and do you know what max current your truck draws?>

In my opinion it depends. As long as the voltage per cell doesnt go bellow 3v it should be fine. Balance charge it at 0.8C and see if it comes up.
The truck probably cut out because at full throttle the voltage sags so if running a bit low it can be enough to trigger low voltage cut off with your ESC. 5000mah at 30C is realistically more like max sustainable amp out put of 100amps per lipo. Do you know what the truck draws amp wise?

thats the thing tho it doesnt have a lipo cutoff its a brushed one, and it was 5.2 when i first checked it so it would have dropped to 2.6 per cell but then it stared increasing. im not sure what you ment about max sustainable amps ? and i have absoloutley no idea but i will try find out

The battery can only deliver a certain amount of amps. Capacity x c rating. Always exaggerated so divide this number by 0.85. If the motor draws more than this battery will get damaged. Brushed motors can still cause voltage sag.

I'd get a new charger if it takes 12hours to charge. You want something that takes an hour to charge. Is that per battery or 6 hours each.

To have packs that far apart i'd guess one pack wasn't charged fully and would ditch both as ideally they need to be matched packs. You want something that takes an hour to charge.

To save money buying a cheap charger will cost you more money as now you need to replace the batteries. You maybe could replace one, but I wouldn't not knowing the history of the other.
And buy an LVA.
