Cool project, what scale. Is it going to br EDF or turbine? I love to see designers doing the not so common models. I shy away from models that have been done before unless I am taking them to a larger scale! Hope to see more as you progress. My projects currently are Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey [1:6 scale] and the F + W C3603 Firefly [1:5 scale]

This a great subject and a winner in flight !

Please have a look at this one :

This one was made by a good friend, full scratch build, full molded (fiberglass + herex), Jetcat P140RX inside, and I can't remember the scale but its around 2.20m wingspan.

This is a real winner and a real trainer in flight.

Yeah, I know, it's a poor video , but it was the first flight and last of thing we were concentrated on was the video and the new camcorder...

Good morning,

I am also building the same model. İs it possible to contact your friend about some questions :

1. CG?
2. Any additional suggestions/warnings about maiden flight (trim) and building process?

Merci beaucoup
Cem

Hi Czirh,

I have your informations.

CoG is as usual for this plane : its a no-sweep back wing, with correct sized horizontal stabilizer with correct fuselage length. So no particularity here, there is lots of calculation tables to ensure a correct CoG. You can use the same % values than other "look like" jets.

For tips about this plane I see at least two of them:
- ensure a correct heat protection of the down surface of the fuselage. It's hot here during startup and engine stop procedure.
- be aware of a pitchup effect when applying full power, as the engine is way below the CoG. On this plane we have a mix engine to elevator to control that (10% down elevator by memory) Changing the angle of the engine in the plane should have very low effect to change that, so we kept the engine with 0° angle.
- this plane should not be overpowered for the very same reason of engine effects. It's an old classic jet from the same time of MIG 15, MIG 17, and other that were very low powered. This is not a problem as the plane is very stable and simply to fly, but you have to be aware of that.

I am planning 1,5-2 degrees angled.

My design trainer jet Canary is 2 degrees turbine down angled.

Hi Czirh,
Thanks for the explanation. Do you see any difference in pitch angles when you increase or decrease power?

As the engine axis is far below the vertical position of CoG (around 10cm or 4in) , you can't avoid to be subject to "effect" when you apply or reduce power, whatever is the angle of the engine.

There is the very same problem with gliders, jet powered or electric powered over the wing with retracting pylon : you have always a great pitch down effect when applying power, whatever the angle. You can only reduce the effect, not make it dissapear...

Salut !
